A few days ago I had an idea for a simple e-ink project and found Inkplate - an Open Hardware design with ESP32 and recycled Kindle displays.
Programmed it to wake up daily at midnight to download a PGM image over WiFi (https://gitlab.com/dos1/kartka) from a server which checks some stuff like trash collection schedule. Should last years on a single battery charge.
Check it out if you look for a super approachable way to build some e-ink stuff! https://inkplate.io/
#phosh 0.10.0 is out 🚀 : https://source.puri.sm/Librem5/phosh/-/releases/v0.10.0
Besides plenty of fixes #phosh can now be a #geoclue agent (so location services can work) and has support for reboot/shutdown dialogs (which are used when e.g. gnome-software wants to reboot or when you shut down the system from the menu).
See above release notes for the full list of changes and contributors.
(it's 8-bit 4208x3120 GRBG - and you'll probably notice autofocus phase pixels that we don't handle in any way just yet :))
I know next to nothing about photography and made no manual processing, so someone with some knowledge will likely get a better photo. If you want to play with it, here's the RAW: https://dosowisko.net/kwiatek.raw + black frame: https://dosowisko.net/black0.pgm
Autofocus support can't get soon enough - turns out that trying to take a focused macro shot with manual focus controlled by typing values into the terminal is kinda cumbersome 😂
...but spring is here, as seen by the #Librem5 camera!
Here comes libadwaita! Read about our plans to make GNOME apps and GTK 4 even better, and about the future of libhandy: https://adrienplazas.com/blog/2021/03/31/introducing-libadwaita.html
Sneak Peek of the Next PureOS Release on the Librem 5
"With the next release of PureOS, code-named Byzantium, just around the corner, let’s give you a sneak peek of what you can look forward to."

Fully agree with you: #Librem5 and #Pinephone actually help each other and we need both to fight with the walled gardens of #Android and #iOS:
However I often see people saying that they have almost the same specs: same CPU and same amount of RAM.
So i wanted to see if developing new system modal dialogs for #phosh becomes simpler (and less code) with the recent changes so i took a stab at the EndSessionDIalog:
#Convergence aka #Desktop mode works fine on both #smartphones for light tasks. But what is "light"? This is where they differ.
#Librem5 (left) smoothly plays two videos simultaneously (one of which is 60 fps), whereas #Pinephone is struggling with single 30 fps video.
Why? Librem 5 has 30% faster CPU clock speed, 140% faster RAM standard, roughly double the GPU performance. More details: https://forums.puri.sm/t/comparing-specs-of-upcoming-linux-phones.

#Convergence works fine on both #phones with original Pinephone USB-C Docking Bar.
#Librem5 (left) and #Pinephone (right) are usable as #Desktop computers for light tasks.
#Firefox is the desktop version with all #plugins you want.
Can your #smartphone do this?
if you only want to disable that for the on screen keyaboard you can use
gsettings set org.sigxcpu.feedbackd.application:/org/sigxcpu/feedbackd/application/sm-puri-squeekboard/ profile silent

So I spent the last few hours on taking pictures of cats with the rear camera of my Librem 5. Yep, that's my job now. #librem5 #gnu #linux #mobile #cat #caturday
All credit for the camera support goes to Dorota, Martin and Angus: https://source.puri.sm/Librem5/linux-next/-/issues/44#note_148408 @merge @purism
If flatpaks ask #geoclue for location service access #phosh can now handle that as a #geoclue agent (which became useful after fixing that for recent kernels using cgroupv2 (https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/geoclue/geoclue/-/merge_requests/81):
Can Librem 5 run Flutter linux desktop apps? Yep! I was able to successfully build and run my BodySculpting weightlifting workout app today on Librem 5 itself. Code once, build for Android, iOS, and Libremt5, how cool is that!
#Librem5vsPinephone
Maximal and minimal #brightness of the #smartphones. #Librem5 beats #Pinephone at both. Also the Pinephone screen colors look colder in comparison. Librem 5 screen looks more pleasant to my eye.
phoc 0.7.0 has just been released!
This version includes mouse based snap-to-edge for tiling and maximizing; window move & resize fixes for touchscreens; and **big** stability improvements - I haven't seen it crashing a single time for a while now :)
