With latest updates, GNOME Web (Epiphany) can play YouTube videos on the Librem 5, so you won't have to switch to Firefox to do that anymore. And you won't believe where the bug was located[1]! ;) Call `sudo apt install gstreamer1.0-libav` or wait a few days until it's installed by default with the next update and enjoy. @purism
[1] it was in glibc...
@bshah @kde@mastodon.technology @plasmamobile IMO a very good decision. Personally I've always deliberately skipped Halium-based projects in my efforts. Don't just port your stuff to foreign platforms; own the platform! ;)

Starting a phone call from the terminal on a #librem5 Birch. This call is to the good old "Fröken ur" speaking-clock service telling us the current time in Swedish. Fröken ur apparently existed since 1934 but it was not until 2020 that I learned how to call her from the terminal. 😃 Thanks @dos for the tip that xdg-open could be used in this way. @purism #calls #mobile #gnu #linux #freesoftware

Based on @craftyguy 's #osk-sdl work i added cryptsetup-initramfs support to the #librem5's image-builder so one can build #luks encrypted images too. There's more work needed for this to hit the factory floor but at least one can build own images with encryption once all is merged. The video shows the devkit since this a bit simpler to debug over serial:

@purism ...and here's Kao Challengers played in PSP emulator (PPSSPP) at 3 times the original resolution. All on free software drivers! :)
@purism Currently manages 30 FPS, just right for that perfect cinematic experience ;) There's still work to do to unleash the full power of the SoC though!
SuperTuxKart played on a Librem 5 phone using an external keyboard and a 1080p TV. So this is this "mobile gaming" they keep talking about, huh? :D
