We added a new option in called Restricted Boot that only boots self-signed kernels and distro-signed ISOs. I talk about how we approached this feature at length in this blog post: puri.sm/posts/introducing-pure

@jhamner There is a great technology museum in Paris that has a whole room devoted to the technology of weaving. It also has an original silk portrait of Jacquard he made on his invention and used for demos.

@jhamner Easiest way is to perform a search for a hashtag and then "Pin" it so it shows up as a column.

@jhamner Thank you! I haven't yet had the pleasure of working with any sort of Dobby or Jacquard loom yet, just my standard 4-harness Jack floor loom and my rigid heddle. One day when I have more space I'd love to have either a full-featured Glimakra draw loom or a Dobby so I can do more complex patterns.

Time for an . I've been involved in and since the late `90s. My career started as a sysadmin, pivoting to security. I'm the President of @purism and work on hardware and software to protect , and freedom.

I've written a number of books (kylerank.in/writing.html) and was a long-time columnist for Linux Journal magazine.

I have many hobbies including , refurbishing mechanical , , , and many other things.

Is it weird that I don't know how to knit, but I want a machine (like a Brother KX-350, but a KH-930e would be cool too)?

How to do threads...

@shawnp0wers And in the case of librem.one we even take it a step further and disable timelines so you only see content you explicitly opt into, and DMs because they aren't private. It's a pretty controversial stance in this community and you definitely trade off some positive benefits to avoid the negative. I guess in our case folks who don't care for our approach have plenty of alternative instances they can join.

@shawnp0wers There are certainly a number of features that are intentionally missing because even though they can have a legitimate positive use, the feeling is that the risk and likelihood of negative use is higher. Same goes for instantly viewing # of likes/boosts on a post in the timeline. It is considered to encourage negative social behavior.

Hi and welcome! 👋

I'm Gina aka foosel. I'm a nerd, full-time open source maintainer and creator of OctoPrint ("the snappy web interface for your 3d printer"), and in my free time I also happen to game (video games and boardgames), bake bread (since before the pandemic even!) or go bouldering.

@crashbox @shawnp0wers I like them quite a bit. The charging speeds are particularly nice on both the ones I have--the Delta can pull a kW to charge at times which was handy when I had to recharge it at a campground bathroom! I don't know what that does to longevity though.

Tomorrow 11/2 at 11:30AM EDT: I'm joining a panel of experts in DPI (Digital Public Infrastructure) for some lively discussion around and frontiersdigitaldevforum.com/a

I have been using the curaslicer plugin in for years, making small tweaks when I moved to new printers. I just tried and saw a significant improvement in print quality just with the default Ender 5 profile.

@shawnp0wers "Superfluous Aesthetic Frivolity" is the name of my polka band!

A tip for those who haven't seen this yet. has its own "" system. Adding a link to your Mastodon profile from your website using the rel="me" attribute will that the owner of both the site and profile are the same, and you get this nifty green highlight to show it.

@shawnp0wers All of my DR plans essentially center on my camper van, and I try to pick tech for it that is easily adaptable to home-based disasters (earthquakes, extended power outages) for maximum flexibility, which is why when I could have invested in new fancy BattleBorn house batteries for the van, I opted for removable Ecoflows instead.

@josh It also means it's time to go outside and check for all the non-waterproof stuff I mistakenly left out there.

@shawnp0wers One thing I discovered, however, is that my Ecoflow Delta doesn't show up as properly grounded to my UPS, while my Ecoflow River does, so the UPS complains about the power source if I use the Delta.

@shawnp0wers Yeah home storage is the first thing that got a battery backup. My plan for extended outages is to re-purpose one of the "solar generators" from my van and plug the battery backup into it, then recharge it periodically (if power continues to go out) via a generator.
