I find it annoying that the notion of "quote boost" is considered a bad idea on Mastodon. Apparently the practice is used on Twitter to troll people or something, so the main dev is against it.
I dunno, I like to add context sometimes when I retweet (boost) something. It's just a weird hill to die on. I can probably just paste a link to the toot, and/or include a screenshot. It's just a weird thing to have to hack around.
Anyway, that's my 2 cents. I'm probably missing something. 🤷♂️
@shawnp0wers And in the case of librem.one we even take it a step further and disable timelines so you only see content you explicitly opt into, and DMs because they aren't private. It's a pretty controversial stance in this community and you definitely trade off some positive benefits to avoid the negative. I guess in our case folks who don't care for our approach have plenty of alternative instances they can join.
