I'll shortly be attempting to migrate to another instance (theoretically all followers automatically get updated? Exciting times), so a brief #introduction while I'm still on this one - I'm a security developer, Linux contributor, and free software advocate focused on ensuring that people are able to make informed decisions about whether their computers are trustworthy and what software can run on them. I also reverse engineer weird IoT things and tend to find exceedingly strange bugs.

phosh 0.22.0 is out 🚀📱 :

A bit later than usual but with more style improvements, better battery indicator and more:

Given how easy it is to move to a different Mastodon instance, it will be interesting to see in the coming months to see how many new folks will live in the "big cities", how many will move to small towns, and how many will start their own homesteads.

@kyle

I was in my school's engineering library this morning and found a familiar author. I thought you'd be interested!

personal Twitter migration plans

My weekend project of installing a mantel over my brick fireplace was stalled by the brick wall being *far* from flat (center sinks in a half inch). After several attempts at shimming the French cleat, still not able to seat the mantel firmly enough to suit me.

This one is for all the new people on #Mastodon: did you know that the #fediverse has more than just a microblogging replacement? And that they can all interoperate with your Mastodon account?

Check them out!

Let's add some more chaotic energy to the world. I've got a prototype for fpm that converts curl|bash to your favorite package format.
> fpm -s curlbash -t rpm "curl ... | bash"

I recorded this episode of @reality2cast back in April with @shawnp0wers and @kyle about making the move from Twitter to the fediverse with Mastodon and I think it’s all still relevant. It’s a fun and nerdy chat you can check out here: reality2cast.com/109 🤓🎙️

How to migrate from one Mastodon server to another without losing followers:

2. On NEW server: Go to Account -> Moving FROM another account
3. Enter old account's handle
4. On OLD server: Go to Account -> Moving TO another account
5. Enter new account's handle and submit

#YoMigroaMastodon

Alright, time to intro for this instance:
I've been in #InfoSec for almost 25 years, starting out in threat research. I moved into #SecurityEducation / "thought leadership" for a few years, and for the last few I've been focusing on #TechnicalWriting / #TechnicalEditing
Trying to help researchers write better threat reports and security content.

The greater part of my thought leadership content was about increasing inclusivity, especially for the #neurodiverse and #disabled communities.

Just got #Mastodon setup on my @purism Librem14 with #QubesOS. I am liking #Whalebird as the local client personally. Yes this is basically my daily driver when I don’t use the Pop!_OS desktop and also what a bit more security. now to back it all up. #cybersecurity #linux

There is an excitement to Mastodon that I haven’t felt in a while. It feels more like the early days of the Internet and IRC more than modern social media.

I just got a (free!) ⁨⁩ machine! This is a KnitKing model 93 with a ribbing attachment, stand, accessories and some yarn. It can even be programmed with punch cards and came with a giant envelope full of them. I can't wait to try it out once I get caught up on ⁨⁩.

time!
My name is dos; some call me Sebastian. I made dozens of small silly video and some slightly less small ones too. I'm one half of @holypangolin studio. Sometimes I pretend to be a musician, but don't get fooled. I'm also a living encyclopedia on a Polish rock band "Perfect". Trams are cooler than trains. The more caramel, the better. I've been using GNU/#Linux on phones for ages, which led me to work with @purism on the Librem 5. btw I use Arch, but I ❤️ Debian!

In the physical world I've seen a large influx of folks moving to my town over the past few years and it definitely has had a number of negative impacts (along with some positive) as town infrastructure tries to keep up with the growth and change in culture. Metering growth based on the speed you can manage it makes sense.

As more people join the , some instances will likely need to pause new registrations while they allow their existing community to absorb new members. This is a *good* thing and no different from towns limiting new housing developments based on what town infrastructure can handle. The town/city governance metaphor applies pretty well to the Fediverse in my opinion.

# Critiques on theories of cyber.

Any theory or framework of cyber conflict that is unable to incorporate the full range of offensive cyber actions is inherently flawed. Here are examples of cyber operations that meet any reasonable criteria for offensive cyber attacks.
- kpop vs ACAB
- Teens vs Trump (Tulsa, 2020)
- Lazarus vs Sony
- Belarusian cyber partisans vs. rail network

Many theories work poorly when forced to model these offensive cyber events. Like “cyber is an intelligence contest.” So explain the k-pop stans disabling police snitch apps for reporting BLM protestors by flooding them with loads of pictures of k-pop artists.
* a non state actor (just a community ot people)
* Attacking state security forces
* To support non state actors
* With the intent of causing political change
This breaks so many theories of cyber. They typically just ignore it instead, but you can’t. If for no other reason than this type of activity is will become more and more relevant as cyber infrastructure becomes increasingly embedded into society.
