And from the Vice article that broke the story: "Among the thousands of other data points, vehicle location data is transmitted on a constant and near real time basis while the vehicle is operating." https://www.vice.com/en/article/k7adn9/car-location-data-telematics-us-military-ulysses-group
To the tech community let's stop using the phrase "This is or isn't my daily driver". This is terrible and who should have say three cars in the garage and only use the Prius for Groceries, the Porsche for Highway driving, the the Tahoe for going skiing. That's for rich people, how about having one daily driver like a Subaru to do it all, there should be one device to rule them all not 3 or 7 that's a nightmare scenario when it comes to maintenance costs, upkeep costs, cross device data loss etc
Why Librem Tunnel is Leaving iOS
"Recently we’ve been forced to remove Librem Tunnel from iOS due to their unfair policies and in this post we’ll explain why."
Oh also I forgot to mention what opensnitch was. It's similar to Little Snitch on Macs, but for Linux. It tracks outgoing network connections and throws up prompts so you can allow/deny them. https://github.com/evilsocket/opensnitch/
libhandy 1.2 just got released! 🎉 It comes with new cool widgets and many fixes, more at https://adrienplazas.com/blog/2021/03/12/libhandy-1-2.html.
All week as we were preparing this article all I could think was: "No disassemble! No disassemble Librem 5!"
Your Smartphone Doesn't Have To Be Glued Shut!
The #librem5 was recently featured in a hardware tear-down video by @iFixit
Phosh Overview
"phosh is graphical shell for mobile, touch based devices like smart phones. It’s the default graphical shell on Purism’s Librem 5 (and that’s where it came to life) but projects like Postmarket OS, Mobian and Debian have picked it up putting it into use on other devices as well and contributing patches."

Parler Tricks: Making Software Disappear
"Regardless of how you feel about Parler, an important thing to note is that this is far from the first time, nor will it be the last time, that Google and Apple remove controversial software from their stores. "

Consent Matters: When Tech Takes Remote Control Without Your Permission
"The irony is that, decades ago, when your average person had minimal experience with computers, those inexperienced users had much more control and autonomy over them."

As of todays #linux-next (https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/next/linux-next.git/tag/?h=next-20210112) you can run the #librem5devkit without any additional patches using the default mainline arm64 #defconfig. This means distributions can enable it without trouble from #linux 5.12 onwards. The #librem5 itself needs some more work but it builds a lot on what we have for the devkit.
We opposed the EARN IT Act last year because it would have let states regulate the Internet, and empowered unjustified online surveillance. https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2020/12/2020-congress-threatened-our-speech-and-security-earn-it-act

Democratize the web crawler. To me this should be regulated requiring website owners to allow access to more than just Microsoft and Google say, access to all crawlers or at least 1-2 independent ones. Since crawling frequency can be set in the robtot.txt settings that should not be too much of a drain for say Instagram or Facebook.
With latest updates, GNOME Web (Epiphany) can play YouTube videos on the Librem 5, so you won't have to switch to Firefox to do that anymore. And you won't believe where the bug was located[1]! ;) Call `sudo apt install gstreamer1.0-libav` or wait a few days until it's installed by default with the next update and enjoy. @purism
