All week as we were preparing this article all I could think was: "No disassemble! No disassemble Librem 5!"
Your Smartphone Doesn't Have To Be Glued Shut!
The #librem5 was recently featured in a hardware tear-down video by @iFixit
@agx thats awesome but the volume popup or any switch interaction popup on the little screen should be a banner and not lock the entire usage of the device just because the user is changing the volume, imagine a stuck volume command bricking the use if the device too risky
@ajmartinez @reality2cast @katherined @doc @kyle strongbox is amazing and works on an iphone4 so i can actually use it
@mladen no sounds can be heard on iOS client
@kyle you guys should sell a dock that works for sure through the purism website and that is tested 8)!
Phosh Overview
"phosh is graphical shell for mobile, touch based devices like smart phones. It’s the default graphical shell on Purism’s Librem 5 (and that’s where it came to life) but projects like Postmarket OS, Mobian and Debian have picked it up putting it into use on other devices as well and contributing patches."
@kde @plasmamobile running on the @purism #Librem5 Birch edition
@martijnbraam @postmarketOS I had actually asked purism why that wouldn't be possible on their pure os running phone given that Linux typically can run from a ISB drive or external storage u it. Then you wouldn't have to flash your device with such large files as the OS
New @postmarketOS installer feature. You can now choose if you want to install to the SD you're booted from or install to the #pinephone internal storage :)

@purism i was curious why a phone needed reflashing if fir example linux can be run straight from a USB stick in a laptop, would it not be possible to just run Debian from the SDcard within the Librem 5, and only flash the drivers?
Parler Tricks: Making Software Disappear
"Regardless of how you feel about Parler, an important thing to note is that this is far from the first time, nor will it be the last time, that Google and Apple remove controversial software from their stores. "

Consent Matters: When Tech Takes Remote Control Without Your Permission
"The irony is that, decades ago, when your average person had minimal experience with computers, those inexperienced users had much more control and autonomy over them."

As of todays #linux-next (https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/next/linux-next.git/tag/?h=next-20210112) you can run the #librem5devkit without any additional patches using the default mainline arm64 #defconfig. This means distributions can enable it without trouble from #linux 5.12 onwards. The #librem5 itself needs some more work but it builds a lot on what we have for the devkit.
