The Librem 5 selfie camera used to be useful only outside in the daylight, but with some gain and exposure adjustments you can now make penguin selfies in the middle of the night too! #shotonlibrem5
A few days ago I had an idea for a simple e-ink project and found Inkplate - an Open Hardware design with ESP32 and recycled Kindle displays.
Programmed it to wake up daily at midnight to download a PGM image over WiFi (https://gitlab.com/dos1/kartka) from a server which checks some stuff like trash collection schedule. Should last years on a single battery charge.
Check it out if you look for a super approachable way to build some e-ink stuff! https://inkplate.io/
Autofocus support can't get soon enough - turns out that trying to take a focused macro shot with manual focus controlled by typing values into the terminal is kinda cumbersome ๐
...but spring is here, as seen by the #Librem5 camera!
So I spent the last few hours on taking pictures of cats with the rear camera of my Librem 5. Yep, that's my job now. #librem5 #gnu #linux #mobile #cat #caturday
All credit for the camera support goes to Dorota, Martin and Angus: https://source.puri.sm/Librem5/linux-next/-/issues/44#note_148408 @merge @purism
Here we can see a Plasmus Vulgaris specimen wandering outside of its regular habitat. Carefully testing the waters, encouraged by being docked, it slowly gets to know the unfamiliar surroundings of the phosh environment it found itself in - the other major part of the diverse ecosystem populating the Librem 5. #kde #plasma #gnome #phosh #gnu #linux #librem5
GTK4's GPU-accelerated GL renderer(s) got a major performance boost in the last few days! Previously it struggled to render simple UIs with single digit FPS on the Librem 5; now it can get pretty fancy :) #librem5 #gnome #gnomeonmobile #gtk
"me in the morning, right after I turned the switches on"
This may not be the most impressive winter selfie (it's a 8M sensor outputting 0.3M after all), but you got to start somewhere :) #librem5
I did nothing but taking the photo (looped in a script with v4l2-ctl and dcraw; then displayed on screen using Eye of GNOME) - all the credit goes to Dorota and Martin, and the work continues there: https://source.puri.sm/Librem5/linux-next/-/issues/43
Spent some time on getting my old Librem 5 port of Jumpdrive into shape, so it can get upstreamed. It's a super useful little recovery utility to have in your tool belt :) https://github.com/dreemurrs-embedded/Jumpdrive/pull/24 #librem5 #gnu #linux #mobile
With latest updates, GNOME Web (Epiphany) can play YouTube videos on the Librem 5, so you won't have to switch to Firefox to do that anymore. And you won't believe where the bug was located[1]! ;) Call `sudo apt install gstreamer1.0-libav` or wait a few days until it's installed by default with the next update and enjoy. @purism
[1] it was in glibc...
@purism ...and here's Kao Challengers played in PSP emulator (PPSSPP) at 3 times the original resolution. All on free software drivers! :)
SuperTuxKart played on a Librem 5 phone using an external keyboard and a 1080p TV. So this is this "mobile gaming" they keep talking about, huh? :D
