Glad I have a Librem 5 phone with hardware kill switches - France Passes New Bill Allowing Police to Remotely Activate Cameras on Citizens' Phones
gizmodo.com/france-bill-allows

@Phaserune @devrtz @purism see source.puri.sm/Librem5/librem5 in l5-devscripts - note that this is intended for people who want to check MRs currently under review so you want to follow the MRs that are tracked too (see e.g. /usr/share/doc/phosh/changelog.Debian.gz) and e.g. source.puri.sm/Librem5/phosh-n

@Phaserune @devrtz @purism

We want that bit of extra care/time before releasing into byzantium (to all users). New packages are in landing already.

You can always run phosh-next if you want new stuff sooner and help testing MRs (but need to be sure you know how to recover)

phosh 0.29.0 is out 🚀📱:

This release brings Improved audio device selection, notifications for ongoing calls, a new sensors panel (thanks @devrtz) suspend from system menu (thanks undef) and more!

Check out the full release notes at phosh.mobi/releases/rel-0.29.0

@debacle @mattj @xmpp Nice! Is that already being used for e.g. spam rules?

This week marks 18 months since I have been using a #librem5 as a daily driver. The first few months were probably the roughest, but I have not needed to use Android at all in those 18 months.

Today, I actually find it quite useable! It just works as a phone, and I can do everything I used to do on my Android Phone on it.

This week I will be on a conference in Italy only using the #Librem5.
The last few weeks with the L5 gave me enough confidence that I think this should work.
Thanks to the lockscreen PDF plugin train and conference tickets are quickly accessible, all my email accounts from work I can access with Geary and the camera is good enough to take notes of some slides.

@eccentricShaft @kop316 Just to fight the disingenuous: I can fully subscribe to what Chris said there and can add games, giving talks using the phones usb-c output for DP, playing music not only with headphones but also car audio systems via BT (including song information in the cars dash), …

I wouldn't say we have still work to do but who hasn't? This might still be a niche compared to proprietary mobile OSes but there's plenty of people using phones like the as daily drivers.

@awai @kop316 @marcellinusme Add to that the fact that many Android apps don't even bother to start when they hit a non-vendor Android claiming it has been "rooted". Same story when you want to run without google play services.

@kop316 @marcellinusme Also an important point to some of us: AOSP is open-source, but its development is quite locked down, and only serves Google's interests... Working on a Linux-based distro gives developers more leverage to contribute and shape the ecosystem in a way that benefits the community, rather than one single company

While at that I put notifications and media player widget into the same
scrolled window and have that use more vertical space so things are (hopefully) less clumsy to use.

While one could get back to an ongoing call on 's lockscreen by swiping
to the right it wasn't clear if there was still a call ongoing. This will be
improved by showing a notification on the lockscreen making it hard to miss (and which we can likely also use to switch between calls once the calls app supports it):

Simplifying audio device selection in (which also needs a tweak in to get nice icons on too):

@linmob Congratulations. I enjoy reading it every week!

Mit einer Freie-Software-Office- und Kollaborations-Suite für Behörden will die Bundesregierung den Zielen des Koalitionsvertrags näher kommen. Doch ein genauerer Blick auf das Projekt wirft Fragen auf.

Biggest downside of running on my phone and laptop: you sometimes try to swipe away notifications on the laptop although it's not a touchscreen 😜 - just happened again .

@okennedy yeah, as @devrtz says: they were around all along and can be enabled via gitlab.gnome.org/World/Phosh/p - it'd wait for 0.29.0 though as the lack of an animation could make the switching a bit surprising
