Glad I have a Librem 5 phone with hardware kill switches - France Passes New Bill Allowing Police to Remotely Activate Cameras on Citizens' Phones
gizmodo.com/france-bill-allows

@ben Do you suspect the Librem 5 will become illegal there because of this?

@golemwire I don't think the user base is big enough to attract that kind of attention from legislators.

@ben
Demand for that feature will become huge, I hope.

@ben Is it a good phone? I'm thinking of getting one.

@Oozenet @ben I use a #Librem5 as my daily phone. I like the phone a lot. But it is not so well matured yet as Android and Apple phones. I have no problem with some inconvenience for more freedom and supporting the development of an opensource phone.

For me the Librem 5 is the best phone available for sure. And it is getting better and better because of the regular software updates.

They also have now a discount action:

@Oozenet It has taken a few years of development but the phone is now worthy of being used as my main phone, and it keeps getting better.

@ben I have been watching it since it was first launched but up until now it still seemed like it needed more work.

Plus I really want the best camera I can get and it isn't that yet.

It would be great if phones were more modular so one could pick say a great camera or a basic camera according to ones needs.

@ben I actually either of the primary goal here is to *dis*able cameras so passers-by cannot film therm?

@ben I'm glad the cost of privacy has gone up! /s
