@th and '<bksp>. for bang!
@th I found the method of removing the top of the empty sodastream container, and filling with dry ice using the CO2 weight on the container as a guide works pretty well too.
My rug is almost ready to take off the loom. The #weaving went quickly compared to the set up, but at the end here I'm struggling because I've run out of warp! I've had to pull many tricks out of my bag to finish this, but I think the final product will still be great.
I decided to measure my rug and remaining warp and I'm glad I did! This technique draws up much more warp than I was expecting so this 3'x5' rug will now be 3'x4'. Thankfully I caught it in time to adjust the pattern so it will still be symmetrical. #weaving
I have a rule that I don't buy yarn unless I already have a project in mind. I broke that rule today because, come on, local yarn with mug shots of the sheep it came from? How can you resist that? #weaving #fibershed
@freakazoid @cstanhope @EdS There is also the issue of compatibility. I think about the shelves full of different lead-acid batteries for traditional ICE cars and how challenging it is to get charging *plugs* to be consistent, and conclude battery swap systems would require far more cooperation between competitors than they will tolerate. It, like charging ports, would have to be part of a government mandate.
It wasn't until Nicole started writing about her work on Librem EC that I realized just how much the embedded controller is responsible for on modern computers, and therefore how important it is that it runs open firmware.
@cstanhope @EdS And there are plenty of examples of similar practices in other industries.
For instance, when I wanted CO2 for my beer keg setup, I bought an empty canister and each time I need a refill I turn in one canister and get a pre-filled one in return.
While I know that some of the earliest automobiles were electric vehicles, I still did a double-take when I saw references to EVs in this 1918 ad for engine oil. #EV #vintage #advertisements
After a few false starts, the rug is finally starting to take shape! I think this is going to go pretty quickly at this point. #weaving
Rather than make new devices that will turn into e-waste after the event, we're recycling old price tags into networked conference badges. https://github.com/osresearch/eink-pricetags
I'm now 24 working hours into my rug #weaving project. I had to buy more heddles to weave this dense, wide, large project. I have finished dressing the loom and am finally at the point where I can start weaving the rug itself.
@lwriemen Yes please! I'd love to have the space for a draw loom, but my jack loom is already pushing it.
@awai Congratulations!
@aral We've been testing a *lot* of desktop GNOME apps here over the past few years and making incremental changes (for projects we are involved in) and otherwise made upstream suggestions when we aren't, to make things more adaptive. We started with the default apps we felt were crucial on a phone (like key items in Settings for instance) and continue to branch out.
@yaelwrites I only have my personal experience, but I recommend switching to an analog watch for 2 weeks and keep track of how many times you look at your watch, look away, and realize you don't know what time it is.
I was disturbed by just how much the notification endorphin rush had rewired my brain when I wore a smart watch. I only wear an analog one now.
