From the article by Quartz:
“Apple has repeatedly helped China control dissent, mostly by removing apps that protestors have used to coordinate, communicate, or gather information. (Quartz’s iOS app was removed by Apple, at China’s request, at the height of the 2019 protests in Hong Kong.) By hobbling the functionality of AirDrop in China, Apple is once again coming to the government’s aid.”
It appears that Apple is helping China in their censorship mission via their suppressing of this tool for dissidents.
You know the #protests in China?
One of #Apple's “This update includes bug fixes and security updates and is recommended for all users” updates changed the everyone visibility of Airdrop to switch off after 10 minutes for #iPhones sold in #China.

Wowza -- I just got a security update for `passwd`!
CVE-2013-4235: https://cve.mitre.org/cgi-bin/cvename.cgi?name=CVE-2013-4235
I'm always surprised when an old internal tool is updated, one tends to think it is as stable as stone.
I'm visiting home for Thanksgiving. We have Smash 4, the version I would play before I was introduced to Smash Ultimate in college.
Oh my, going back to it, it feels *so* floaty and slow-motion! I couldn't believe I used to play Smash at Smash 4 speeds.
The thing about Twitter is that it really lacks a lot of the features you'd expect from a true Mastodon replacement.
For example, there's no way to edit your toots (which they, confusingly call "tweets"—let's face it, it's a bit of a silly name that's difficult to take seriously).
"Tweets" can't be covered by a content warning. There's no way to let the poster know you like their tweet without also sharing it, and no bookmark feature.
There's no way to set up your own instance, and you're basically stuck on a single instance of Twitter. That means there's no community moderators you can reach out to to quickly resolve issues. Also, you can't de-federate instances with a lot of problematic content.
It also doesn't Integrate with other fediverse platforms, and I couldn't find the option to turn the ads off.
Really, Twitter has made a good start, but it will need to add a lot of additional features before it gets to the point where it becomes a true Mastodon replacement for most users.
I've been on a chronological timeline both here and on Twitter for a few years. Here is how I manage it:
I don't follow lightly. Following means I want to see all your posts. I read each post.
I filter. When ppl fill up my whole timeline with streams of posts too often, I either filter boosts or unfollow. It's nothing personal.
What about trending? Easy to tell what's trending because people w/ shared interests who I follow post/boost about the topic. If not, I follow someone new who does.
Tooting from @maartje 's Mastodon 3.11 for Workgroups! Though not sure if the parsing weirdness is my poorly setup WebOne or not
Now that I'm really cranking through this project, I had the fleeting thought "wow maybe it *would* be profitable to sell these" until I did the math. It will take 8 hours to weave the fabric and another 12 to finish it (tying fringe, washing, ironing) and sew it into a tote. I realized if I sold them for $350 I'd cover material costs and pay myself a $15/hr minimum wage.
So if you are wondering why I'm not opening up an Etsy store or something, that's why. #weaving
Hello Fediverse!
I'm sharing a thing that I hope can be the beginning for many conversations, and represents for me a statement that is the result of many years of conversation:
I call it the #slocanstatement, and I'm sharing it here first, in public, in the spirit of the Fediverse.
I hope you'll read it, share it if you think it's a valuable statement, and comment and revise it towards building consensus across the Fediverse.
Hello there!
I boost a lot of posts, but I have a few things to say every now and then.
I am largely fine with boosting posts from people I disagree with even on significant, dividing issues. I usually don't, however, if they actively advocate for these ideas... so it goes :/
