@Anachron @steffo@fosstodon.org @bs @ben Older DOS systems were that way I think!

@RL_Dane OpenBoard (on F-droid) has an emoticon selector, though only with a small very selection. OpenBoard is my favorite open-source keyboard I've tried so far.

Every so often I feel drawn to my #DEC #vt510 terminal. Tonight I've spent an hour or so reading email and browsing the web (yes, with #eww) on it. Despite, or perhaps /because/, its limitations, something about it seems familiar and comfortable.

And I'm writing this toot using the #cli program called #toot, from my amber 80x25 screen on a vt510 that's nearly 30 years old. toot reminds me of IRC in a way, and I think that's a good thing.

@RL_Dane It bothers me how arbitrary emoji can be. I think there are too many of them, and some emoji seem "political" 😠
I wish that the only emoji that existed were the ones expressing emotion (like above).

@mike @cy@mstdn.io I also like using the DDG search engine to help split up my usage of Internet services.

How often are you in the #Fediverse?
Please boost or share!

I think I'll never go back to KDE though, it is like impossible for me to focus while using it, I always go config crazy

@RL_Dane Heading to college, I'll probably switch back to a cool i3-like environment 😁

If you're starting a brand new account on a Fediverse server, it's not a good idea to post lots of content before you have followers.

The only people who can see your posts on the Fediverse are those on your server, those on other servers which have at least one person following you, or those who see your post shared.

If you post all your best content up front on a brand new account with no followers, no one outside your server will be able to see it. Even if they follow you later, the posts you made before that will not be visible to them, because Fedi platforms don't backfill old posts on accounts you follow.

It's much better to gradually add content as your follower numbers grow.

You only need one follower from a server in order for everyone on that server to see your post. Even if you only have a dozen followers, that's up to 12 other servers that can see what you post.

(Sorry for repost, I phrased original post really badly!)

@allinone0@fosstodon.org For me, (1) it makes me think that the asker is asking for a small amount of money and (2) it compares the amount you are paying to something trivial and (3) it sounds like a friendly way to ask :)

@RL_Dane That's the main reason why I use GNOME. Its (over-)simplicity is helpful with focus, as they advertise.
Being an Ubuntu user using GNOME and basic tools, one would think I'm the simpler type of Linux user. Currently I pretty much am, but I used to try many distributions, desktops, window managers, browsers, etc. But maybe someday I'll go back to Arch Linux with sway and my configuration of it.

@RL_Dane So far there isn't a feature for connecting to your phone (that I know of) in a useful way. It has Bluetooth (BLE) and has code for fetching Weather via WiFi though!

@RL_Dane It isn't in the GadgetBridge list of supported devices. Watchy is very DIY, if you want a feature then you can make it yourself, or find someone else's code, and flash the device (over USB). It works with Arduino and PlatformIO. The Discord chat group (discord.gg/ZXDegGV8E7) is helpful.

@RL_Dane The SQFMI Watchy (watchy.sqfmi.com/ and sqfmi.com/watchy/) is pretty cool. I have one. It is ESP32-based. The Arduino library for it isn't good, and the hardware is okay, but it has a screen, WiFi, and is programmable. I love it.

@allinone0@fosstodon.org Stereotypical (?)

Gotta say, the Single Unix Specification is pretty SUS.

Ok, I'll leave.
