The Librem 5 smartphone team has been hard at work, and we want to update you all on our software progress.

Including: LibHandy, Calls, Encrypted messaging, patches going upstream, Mesa, Documentation, and... Quake II. Seriously.

Did you know that you can check out source code for things Purism works on (such as Librem One applications and bits relating to the upcoming Librem 5 smartphone) right from source.puri.sm?

Source code should be Free.

That's just how we roll.

These are hardware kill switches.

Not a webcam cover. Not software disabled Wi-Fi. Kill switch.

Laptops should have these.

Ours do.

@davidrevoy Thanks David! :) That is what free software is all about : Contributing our own requirements to the enjoyment of everyone.

@dallin @purism Thank you so much for that Dallin! Purism has been funded by the people with a goal of existing for the people, and so, we only exist thank to people like you who support what we do. Thank you so much!

@deceptivecornbread @purism Never underestimate the power of free software and free technologies in general. Especially in term of creativity. The real limitation is our imagination.

I want to thank Apple and Adobe for making me understand what planed obsolescence means and for making me understand how ethical free software is and how it is important in our society.

Companies usually work for the people that fund them in the first place. That is not an issue and it is something natural. The real issue is who fund the company?

Purism has been funded by the people.

I just wrote a post that talks about user empowerment and how that influences how @purism designs its products, from hardware to software to security to services to social: puri.sm/posts/with-purism-prod

@david @todd @kyle Good illustration choice David! The ring represents that illusion of power that is abusing you. It makes you believe that by having it in your hands, you own it and you have power but it is just an illusion. Instead, this illusion has been made to dominate you. The wise doesn't fall in the trap. Such a beautiful metaphor from such an amazing movie.
