Convergent App Development

"The Librem 5 while docked is just as versatile to write code on as our laptop. Build apps once, and run them on any screen size on a variety of hardware."

No dependency to Google, no microg app required. Pure open source, built reproducibly.

Hardware should be open:
I have an USB 4G surfstick (ZTE MF823) which worked perfectly on Linux for over a year. Suddenly it stopped working. However, it still works on Windows. But it doesn't work on any Linux system. I guess it is just a software bug but it is a pain to figure out what is going on because there is absolutely no documentation about this device online... Open Hardware could definitely help to reduce electronic waste!

Possibility 1:
The moon makes a big jump at 1 o'clock.

Possibility 2:
My calculations are not correct.

Librem 5 Mass Production Phone Has Begun Shipping

"Shipping the Librem 5 has been an immense multi-year developmental effort. It is the culmination of people’s desire to see an alternative to Android and iOS..."

The EU seems extremely naive to think that banning E2E encryption could stop criminal activities. This will only harm regular citizens and allows spying by every secret service in the world. Did nobody learn from the and story?
E2E encryption protects civil rights and doesn't harm them.

@geary @gnome @purism Just got the email client running on a Birch. This is a Geary version built from Purism's git repo source.puri.sm/Librem5/geary (I tried the upstream version also but got into trouble with the initial account setup dialog that did not fit the screen). Anyway, glad to see this is working!

I think I found some appropriate equations to calculate the position of the moon (Azimuth +- 0.5° and Elevation +- 1°). I have to test them in further detail but it looks like a good compromise between accuracy and simplicity.
One goal is to keep the number of calculations low for a better performance on mobile devices.

The last days were very productive and PicPlanner is now able to calculate and present the time and azimuth of Sunrise and Sunset, the time of the blue hour and golden hour and the end and beginning of the dark night. The elevation of the sun is also visualised in a plot. I will do the same for the milky way in the next few days.

Still experimenting with the user interface. At least my plots scale now as I want them to.
But it will still take some time until this app looks nice 😅

It looks like a red rectangle... But it is a red rectangle that took me a whole day to program because I had to figure out how to plot something with Cairo inside of a GTK Box element that is not visible at the time of creating the plot... But now I understand how Cairo works 😅 I furthermore added my own formulas for calculating the position of the sun and the formulas for calculating the position of the milky way are now working correctly.

I am working on my GTK app PicPlanner again.
I had an error in my calculations which I did not understand so I started to check all my formulas again and calculated every value by hand. In the last calculation, I saw that I used a "wrong" constant which I was using half a year ago for a specific test and forgot to delete.
Only took me four hours. Nice! 👍

@purism Built a simple virtual mouse for using virtual-pointer protocol so i can navigate the pointer on the external screen attached to the without having a physical mouse attached. Useful for e.g. presentations when you only connect a beamer.

@purism While fixing related issues in , and the kernel for the I wanted things to be more automatic. So can now enable a 'docked' mode on screen plug: windows become moveable automatically (and get their close button back), gets disabled and there's a quick setting that lets you toggle that too:
