I added a fourth color and a new pattern to my fabric. It's starting to get... complicated...

I don’t know if this will help anyone, but:

Mastodon: Help for the Frustrated User!

@Thalass **looks around nervously** yeah I totally agree...

@jzb Yes I just got a flatbed knitting machine that is programmable with punch cards (social.librem.one/@kyle/109293), but apparently there are also electronically-controlled ones as well. This sort of tech seems to have hit its heyday in the `90s from the bit of research I've gathered so far.

Adafruit had a project to "modernize" the interface to one:

learn.adafruit.com/electroknit

Found out from my local yarn store that a regional yarn store had new-in-box electronic machines on sale incredibly cheap. Unfortunately (fortunately?) they had sold out by the time I called them. Not that I had the space for one, but it seemed too good to pass up.

@Viss Have you tried refreshing the tab to trigger it to reload?

@Wildbill @jorge And I'm digging having all the conversations I care about be over here now :) Looking forward to the day when I no longer have to do cross-posting.

As requested, I have migrated my infosec Mastodon account importable lists here: tisiphone.net/2022/11/10/infos

I hope this helps, pals! I will try to keep them as up to date as I can.

@jorge @Wildbill I've been cross-posting both here and there for the past few years, but there's no telling how many of my posts the algorithm let you see over there.

I came to my office to find that after 29 hours the articulated cobra was done printing! Here it is with support material removed.

@ancroimealmor@mastodon.social @weaving Nice scarf! I found that the book Finishes in the Ethnic Tradition by Baizerman and Searle to be very useful when deciding on different finishing techniques for fringe. I tend to use hemstitch, Phillipine and Damascus edges for most of my fringe.

@Thalass You should definitely try it! It requires focus but it seems from a different part of my brain than my day job so it ends up becoming meditative and relaxing. I recommend starting with a rigid heddle loom, they are small, (relatively) inexpensive, but very capable.

I suppose I should do an #introduction - I''m Jorge and I'm an open source community manager, I'm a bit of a cloud nerd. In the past I've worked on Kubernetes and Ubuntu, these days doing cloudcustodian.io.

Looking forward to hanging out with ya'll!

I like to talk about #linux #kubernetes #f1 #destiny2

While it took a few weeks to work up the nerve, here is proof that we actually do use the Rep weave rug I made for the front entry way.

@SewingforyourLife If you have storage problems then definitely do *not* take up weaving on a floor loom :)

Although a rigid heddle loom doesn't take up much space...

@SewingforyourLife You can never have too many hobbies! I personally started weaving a year ago. It's very fun and relaxing, but it's also my first fiber-based hobby.

@SewingforyourLife Thank you! I can't wait to see what the finished product looks like, I'm sort of making up this pattern as I go along!
