That wasn't so bad. The sensors were just completely covered in dirt. I gave them a quick cleaning and the Roomba is back in working order.
@yaelwrites Weird! I have submitted quite a few talks for SCALE but so far have gotten radio silence. Either all my pitches were bad, or they are still debating whether they are going to have the conference (in March).
@yaelwrites How kind of you to say! Wow, remember talks? That seems like so long ago now...
@aral @purism No problem! I also had to work within a few design constraints. The most relevant one here is that I wanted it to be as OS-agnostic as possible (like PureBoot is in general). I write at length about the design constraints and considerations here: https://puri.sm/posts/new-pureboot-feature-scanning-root-for-tampering/
@yaelwrites Yeah maybe sexism is more a factor. I have a small level of (possibly waning) name recognition in a particular community because of my books and Linux Journal column but it is mostly positive.
@twrightsman Hmmm unfortunately I don't believe Pearson provides the same kind of ebook options as, say, No Starch, but then also I haven't ordered my own book so I'm embarrassingly ignorant of the options. Paper form is DRM-free though!
@yaelwrites Super interesting (and unfortunate)! I always suspected that might be the case but never knew for sure (and was never high profile enough myself to experience it).
Of course the yarn for my rug project would arrive the day after I start #weaving a different project. I'll have to figure out how I'm going to split my time.
Progress goes surprisingly fast on this loom considering the fine (fingering weight) yarn I'm using, and the fact it's my first time weaving on a floor loom.
The MS/Activision deal makes sense now that universal DRM pieces are in place for Windows 11. Makes MS app store a more attractive platform. Goal is to lock computers down like smartphones w/ app store gateways in the name of security. https://puri.sm/posts/the-beat-of-a-different-drm/
Inspired by the recent news of Canon bypassing toner DRM and Microsoft's Pluton chip, I wrote a piece that explores how DRM fits into plans to lock general-purpose computers down like printers and smartphones. https://puri.sm/posts/the-beat-of-a-different-drm/
Warping for my first project on my floor loom: a plaid scarf to match the tweed one I made my wife. #weaving
@yaelwrites Sounds like a great opportunity to catch up on reading!
