@kop316 @purism This is my understanding as well (and same here - things may have changed in the last several years since learning this 😄).

I do recall, though, that GoogleFi mobile data did not work on my Pixel 2 with LineageOS VANILLA until I installed GAPPS. microG may also suffice, but I did not test this. I've heard that others have been able to access mobile data on other carriers using only VANILLA, which was the premise of my surprise.

@didek @purism I cannot verify since I don't have a non-Google SIM available to me, but I believe it does. People reported being able to use LineageOS VANILLA using other carriers and had mobile data capability. I was not able to use mobile data with Google Fi without first installing GAPPS.

From my experience, my devices require numerous libraries in order to function properly with , my current carrier. However, I swapped the physical SIM into my ( , not Android) and calls, SMS, and mobile data worked out of the box. Great job, @purism!!

Next, I'd love to migrate to a Librem mobile plan once it's possible to transfer my existing number. 😊

Can confirm, especially when having to develop mission-essential applications for the military where a case we had to consider was "user leaves an object on top of keyboard," etc.

We have way too many patents as it is. The last thing we need are AI patent troll farms generating millions of trivial "inventions" then suing everyone actually building stuff.

I added a configuration for eclipse to easily download/install in my Debian live project. I had flashbacks to high school when having to jump through hoops to install cygwin/eclipse on Windows...

Thanks to loading and a few OS on a USB boot drive, I can use the tool I wrote to enable a persistent desktop or server environment that's both (mostly) distro-agnostic and hardware-agnostic!

It's still a work in progress, but I'm starting to lean toward supporting more desktop environments than and more OS options than (I'm currently improving support). I should probably reconsider renaming the project. 😉

ive got a few blog posts bookmarked, but can anyone recommend me writing on how for-profit companies abuse open source? specifically thinking about how they treat it like outsourced labor- relying on public labor for private profits, but other criticisms like patterns of EEE relevant too.

boosts welcome, want to make sure I cite the ppl who are writing abt this.
