@cassvs I'm so glad I'm running my college's software in a Windows VM. I highly recommend doing it this way!
It was disturbing when I installed Microsoft Office. Without warning, branding for the college appeared on the Windows search screen and Microsoft Edge landing screen. When I search my computer, college info is searched as well (I didn't ask!). I am restricted from changing some settings. When I tried to log out from my college account via the Settings app, I was met with this message:
@RL_Dane Oh we have (had?) a deck that looks like that!
@pixelherodev@fosstodon.org @foura I find that having the initrd separate is nice. When I update my system, sometimes the initrd gets rebuilt. I guess the general principle of creating software in separate modules applies here. If the initrd is changed in an update, you don't also have to download the kernel with it, for example.
Gotta #confess...
I miss the sounds of hard disks clicking.
It was such great auditory feedback regarding your computer's state, and it was so great to HEAR your computer working.
Haven't had one as a primary/boot disk since 2014 or earlier.
Of course, they were pretty quiet by then.
I don't miss my screaming 20MB miniscribe so much.
Well... maybe even that one. X"-D

@MKUltralow That's me but when the site says 'by continuing, you agree to [whatever]'
@RL_Dane I have used it before, it has great function :) but firewalling it off is a good idea
@RL_Dane OpenBoard (on F-droid) has an emoticon selector, though only with a small very selection. OpenBoard is my favorite open-source keyboard I've tried so far.
Every so often I feel drawn to my #DEC #vt510 terminal. Tonight I've spent an hour or so reading email and browsing the web (yes, with #eww) on it. Despite, or perhaps /because/, its limitations, something about it seems familiar and comfortable.
And I'm writing this toot using the #cli program called #toot, from my amber 80x25 screen on a vt510 that's nearly 30 years old. toot reminds me of IRC in a way, and I think that's a good thing.
Hello there!
I boost a lot of posts, but I have a few things to say every now and then.
I am largely fine with boosting posts from people I disagree with even on significant, dividing issues. I usually don't, however, if they actively advocate for these ideas... so it goes :/
