I want to go back to using Emoticons, rather than Emoji, because they actually require some creativity.

The problem I didn't expect was that it's next to *impossible* to find emoticons online. *every* result is for emojis and crappy stock images of emojis. It's horrible!

@RL_Dane It bothers me how arbitrary emoji can be. I think there are too many of them, and some emoji seem "political" 😠
I wish that the only emoji that existed were the ones expressing emotion (like above).

@golemwire

I vaguely remember that the Japanese keyboard on iOS actually had a very nifty emoticon (not emoji) selector.

Emoji saves a lot of space on #birdsite, but I don't really care about that. It's also easier to pick out on mobile, but the lack of creativity is kind of bothersome.

The worst case ever is Facebooks laughing emoji that are SO cringe and just trying WAY too hard.

@RL_Dane OpenBoard (on F-droid) has an emoticon selector, though only with a small very selection. OpenBoard is my favorite open-source keyboard I've tried so far.

@golemwire

I'm too spoiled with Gboard. I keep it closed off at the firewall

@RL_Dane I have used it before, it has great function :) but firewalling it off is a good idea
