Shot with a Canon EOS R5 and edited with ART (fork of Rawtherapee) on Manjaro Linux.

I love Linux as a photographer! I lately calibrated my monitor again and it is so easy with #displaycal in combination with a Datacolor Spyder 5.

But I was not able to make the calibration via #gnome color settings. It always gave me an error... Has anyone managed to do this?

I recently bought a Canon EOS R5 mirrorless camera. The RAW files are now in a new CR3 format which is still not very well supported in Linux. However a fork of the RAW converter RawTherapee called ART fully supports them. Furthermore ART is extremely intuitive. I think this will be my new favourite editing programme! Here some examples 100% processed on Linux 😍

@demut @ingaklas @Lanthanus Ich bin auch nicht hier um Lehrer zu verteidigen 😄 Aber ein Lehrer hat im allgemeinen halt auch keine Befugnisse was zu ändern. Die werden nicht gefragt was sie verwenden wollen und Lehrer die auf den Datenschutz aufmerksam machen denen wird das selbe an den Kopf geworfen: "Sie müssen Teams ja nicht her nehmen". Und was dann? Der Großteil der Eltern würde sich beschweren wenn dann ein Lehrer was anderes verwendet.

@ingaklas @Lanthanus Ja verstehe ich voll und ich finde auch, dass Grundlegende Kenntnisse wirklich nicht zu viel zu erwarten sind. Allerdings wollte ich auch darauf hinweisen, dass die Lehrer, die das gut machen, keinen 40h Job haben sonder eher 60-70h. Von befreundeten Lehrern weiß ich, dass diese momentan 6h brauchen um eine 45 min Unterrichtseinheit zu erstellen. Hilfe vom Kultusministerium bekommen sie dabei aber nicht (wie z.B. Unterrichtsideen oder Tablets).

@ingaklas @Lanthanus Allerdings sind die Lehrer auch nur Opfer des Kultusministeriums... Kaum IT Kurse, die Hardware is bei fast allem Lehrern ihre private, Unterstützung bei der Unterrichtsgestaltung gibt es auch so gut wie nicht... Und innerhalb von einem Jahr alleine ohne Hilfe von "oben" digitalen Unterricht vorzubereiten für mehrere Klassen ist extrem. Es muss Aufgabe der Länder sein sich um datenschutz-konforme Software zu kümmern nicht der Schulen...

@tomek Thanks! I really really love RawTherapee! I normaly shoot weddings. I have used it for the last 4 weddings and I think it's an awesome piece of software. It takes a few images and some months of trial and error but after about 7000 images I am definitely as fast as I have been with Lightroom. And the Linux integration is excellent. One click and your pre processed photo opens with gimp.

@piegames @upgradetofreedom Allerdings wird open source auch immer wieder gezielt schlecht dargestellt. Microsoft hat da z.B. immer wieder ganze Arbeit geleistet... Siehe LiMux

@malte @upgradetofreedom Ich würde nicht pauschal Lehrern die Schuld geben. Gerade während Corona wurde die Lehrer komplett im Stich gelassen vom Kultusministerium. Lehrer müssen das alles alleine managen, kriegen kaum IT Schulungen, sollen von heute auf morgen neue digitale Stunden entwickeln und das Kultusministerium bzw. unser ganzes Bildungssystem macht im Prinzip gar nix um diese dabei zu unterstützen... Das ist keine Schuld der Lehrer das Problem kommt eher von oben

@kattascha Bei einem Konsumtag muss man sich aber nicht mit komplizierten gesellschaftlichen Problemen auseinandersetzen... Es ist viel leichter ein Sonderangebot zu vermarkten als die Frauenquote in der Chef Etage zu erfüllen 😉
