@Thalass You should definitely try it! It requires focus but it seems from a different part of my brain than my day job so it ends up becoming meditative and relaxing. I recommend starting with a rigid heddle loom, they are small, (relatively) inexpensive, but very capable.

While it took a few weeks to work up the nerve, here is proof that we actually do use the Rep weave rug I made for the front entry way. #weaving

@SewingforyourLife If you have storage problems then definitely do *not* take up weaving on a floor loom :)

Although a rigid heddle loom doesn't take up much space...

@SewingforyourLife You can never have too many hobbies! I personally started weaving a year ago. It's very fun and relaxing, but it's also my first fiber-based hobby.

Side note for other weavers: when I did the threading for this, I dressed the loom to be able to do 3 to 4 totes. To give myself maximum future flexibility, instead of doing a typical 1-2-3-2-1 krokbragd threading, I opted for 1-2-3-4-1-2-3-4 traditional twill and then when doing tie-ups I left my plain weave 2-4 treadle alone.

This lets me weave 1-2-3 krokbragd but I also have the option to switch to a standard twill pattern if I wanted to.

I brought an #antique mechanical #calculator (Monroe LN-160X) to my local Linux Users' Group last night for show and tell. But even better, someone else brought their #Curta Type I! I had never seen, much less used one in person before. Everything about them, the look, the feel, the form factor, is fantastic.

@jhamner The book was first printed in 1931 but my copy is from 1936.

I'm #weaving fabric for another tote bag using the krokbragd technique. What I like about this technique is that it allows for a level of improvisation you typically don't get with most weaving.

For instance, I decided this pattern in brown tones will be a bit too bland for the full side of the tote, so I'm going to improvise a banded purple diamond pattern around the middle of the tote to spice things up.

@raise-project Yes the initial jam that started it all happened about 24 hours into a print!

@raise-project Thanks for the tips! Yes that was the cause of the initial jam (this room gets somewhat dusty) and it took quite a bit of work to clean that out.

It was only after cleaning it out well and having a successful print or two that this happened with a freshly-opened spool, even after cleaning, and after scratching my head noticed the resistance in the new bowden tube.

I should really get an enclosure for this ender 5, but that would take up a lot of space!

This past weekend I had a #3dprinting jam bad enough it was easier to replace the whole bowden tube. After a print or two I started getting equally bad jams with the new tube! The clue was noticing resistance just pushing filament through the bowden tube. A drop of olive oil on the foam in my dust filter provided enough lubrication and now prints are silky smooth!

@racheltobac For organizations large enough to manage it, having a dedicated Fediverse instance on the org's domain (say, social.aa.com, social.airbnb.com etc) would let a customer treat social media from those accounts like they would emails from aa.com or airbnb.com.

To me that would provide stronger verification than the typical Mastodon ref=me cross-link in the profile.
