#osk-sdl unlocking a LUKS rootfs running PureOS on the #purism #librem5 devkit.
osk-sdl is an initramfs touchscreen keyboard made originally for postmarketOS, for unlocking a LUKS rootfs on touchscreen devices with no physical keyboards.
The long unlocking time is due to the rootfs being encrypted on a big core desktop system (see `man 8 cryptsetup` /--iter-time)
The "Public Security Police" (PSP) in #portugal declared that their officers will have to remove any #nazi #racist and #party tatto's in six months.
Because police will stop being racist if the ink is all washed away... Right...

Feds are using sophisticated electronic surveillance against protesters in Portland. I wrote about how you can protect your Constitutionally protected privacy and freedom of assembly rights against these threats https://theintercept.com/2020/09/25/surveillance-sim-cloning-protests-protect-phone/

A: The White House has to be careful about the use of force, it's a hostile Congress
B: Well, personally I'd have no problem using force on Congress, but that's not my call
We are ecclectic at grabbing the best things in town: @martijnbraam's megapixel camera app is now available (and the default camera for new installs).
Also, if an upgrade fails due to a gnome-camera [pinhole] dependency: you need to get rid of python3-yoyo-migrations which is superseded by Debian's python3-yoyo package.
#phosh 0.4.4 is out 🚀 : https://source.puri.sm/Librem5/phosh/-/releases/v0.4.4
Besides lots of new translations and i18n improvements this release switches to libhandy 1.0 and makes the wwan signal strength indicator work for #ofono too (contributed by &t). We also expanded the developer docs (https://honk.sigxcpu.org/projects/phosh/docs) and @zbrown made some internal cleanups.

Once this is merged, XMPP on Chatty should now support OMEMO on #postmarketOS

I found a GTK #weechat relay client that runs ok on #postmarketOS with #Phosh after fixing some performance issues with it. My dream of using IRC (and matrix via weechat plugin.. grumble grumble..) how I want to on a mobile device running Linux is one step closer!
Definitely needs some libhandy love though, any good starting points for porting GTK apps to libhandy?
Adventures of porting postmarketOS to the Librem 5

Today in The Bookseller - the UK's trade magazine for the bookselling industry - I published "Inaudible," in which I unpack my reason for foregoing hundreds of thousands of dollars by refusing to allow Audible to put DRM on my audiobooks.

DRM isn't hard to break (just google "break audible drm" if you don't believe me!) but it IS a felony to traffick in tools that break DRM. That means that the DRM that Amazon forces on creators and publishers in the name of "protecting" them does nothing of the sort.
But it DOES lock their works to Amazon's platform...forever.
Labor economists talk about "chickenization" in markets where there is a "monopsony" - that is, where a single seller controls access to the market.
