To add to this, the worst misconceptions that have led to misinformation and political strife are:

1. There are only two sides. My side and the bad one.

No, there are not. It’s not a sports game.

2. Anything said about the other side is true and doesn’t need fact checking.

No, it especially does. People have a blind spot for stories that match their worldview or that they want to be true.

3. Someone I agree with must be a good person (and vice versa)

Nope. Definitely not.

Hey guys, quick PSA for you:

Never just post a ‘shocking’ story on social media without fact checking it first. Even if it’s about those on the other side of the political spectrum.

No wait, ESPECIALLY if it’s about those on the other side of the political spectrum.

Because misinformation and hearsay are everywhere, and it will spread if not questioned.

I don't think everyone is aware of just how far the TikTok filters have come when it comes to changing people's appearance in real-time, with no latency and no visual artifacts.

I've compiled two videos showcasing the new beauty filter and the teen filter, if you're curious:

Well eating part of that hot chocolate bomb straight didn't make me feel energized for school, or even taste very good for that matter

I thought this was a nice simple overview of the recently discovered broken tech. youtube.com/shorts/aIredmTAvw4
And we thought Steve was bad enough as he was....

Maybe will fix this; they're not releasing any more balance patches, but this is a , right?

Last night was wild! Here's what my camera saw after I went to bed. #alaska #aurora

Apparently there is now a genuine "Mastodon For Dummies" book:

➡️ dummies.com/article/technology

It's a real physical book, it's in bookshops and libraries! Depending on where you live, it's out now or out this week.

I haven't read it (yet) but the index seems promising and they even cover non-Mastodon Fediverse platforms including lesser known ones like @inventaire

(Thanks to @technomancy for highlighting this release!)

The Netherlands is doing a pilot program to supply #fediverse accounts for all Dutch university students! :undefined:

U.S. Rewards for Justice @RFJ_USA is on !

Go to state.gov/rewards-for-justice/ -> rewardsforjustice.net/ -> Mastodon icon at footer. Verified this way, and too 😀

Their Twitter account is active, but unfortunately they haven't posted anything under this account on Mastodon. I don't really blame them, they have about 3 or 4 followers. Give them a follow if you're interested.

There are three kinds of timelines on here:

Home - Main timeline, shows all posts by people you follow, plus posts which include hashtags you follow

Local - Shows all public posts by all accounts on your server

Federated - Shows all public posts by all accounts that your server has noticed

On the official Mastodon app, Local is called "Community", click the magnifying glass 🔍 to see it.

A breeze in the dark when I'm alone outside makes me feel wistful. It makes me look up and think.
It is a little unsettling, and yet comforting at the same time. It is like God looks back down, knowing me, while I look up from our Creator-owned and self-owned sandbox reality.

If you're using Mastodon on a computer, there's an optional "advanced" mode available on your server's website.

By default Mastodon uses a simple single column, but advanced mode is a Tweetdeck-style multicolumn interface that lets you add as many columns as you want. This includes a special pinned hashtag feed where you can combine, require or exclude particular tags within a single feed.

To find out how to activate and use advanced mode, click here:
