In case you missed it, you do not need to use the official Mastodon app! Third party Mastodon apps tend to have more features, and many people prefer them.

Mastodon uses free open source technical standards, so all apps have equal access to all of Mastodon's features.

There are lots of third party Mastodon apps, here are a few examples to get you started:

:android: If you're on Android, try Tusky, Fedilab or Tooot

:apple_inc: If you're on iPhone/iPad, try Toot!, Ice Cubes or Ivory

Profile checklist for Mastodon:

1. Customise your profile page and fill in the metadata. (more info fedi.tips/how-do-i-customise-m)

2. Make sure any links begin with https:// so they are clickable. (more info fedi.tips/ive-written-a-link-b)

3. Write a brief intro and pin it to your profile. (more info fedi.tips/how-do-i-pin-my-post)

4. If you have an official website, verify the link so that it turns green. (more info fedi.tips/how-do-i-verify-my-a)

5. Share your account address (more info fedi.tips/whats-my-accounts-ad)

I was looking at the new Play (Terms of Service)

"You may be able to manage Updates to certain Content via Settings in Google Play. If it is determined, however, that the Update will fix a critical security vulnerability or critical operability issue related to the Content, or will prevent abuse, the Update may be completed irrespective of your Update settings in Google Play or your Device."

This isn't anything new, but that's a backdoor, technically.

Having my college classes start between noon and 1 has been great, save the fact that it makes it too easy to develop the bad habit of pushing homework off until the day of.

Hm, I could stream the Superbowl by subscribing to a service at ~$70 a month, or I can by a crappy antenna and watch it on broadcast TV for virtually nothing. What to do what to do.

If you want to transfer your account from one Mastodon server to another, here's a step-by-step guide all about how to do it:

fedi.tips/transferring-your-ma

It's a bit longer than some guides as it includes transferring followers, follows and mutes/blocks/bookmarks.

No, Ethan, you don't have that much time to complete said task

Today we've released a new update to our iOS app! It brings an improved sign-up flow, home screen widgets, and many accessibility improvements.

On Monday, we shared about two other efforts. One is Bard, an experimental conversational AI service that is separate from Google Search. We’re excited Bard is in a trusted tester phase that will help us continue to learn & improve its quality and speed… #Google #Search #AI #Bard blog.google/technology/ai/bard

A server's Local timeline shows all the public posts by people on that server.

You can browse other servers' Local timelines by going to their websites and clicking on "Local". You don't need to log in or be a member because these are all public posts.

Some apps also let you follow other servers' Local timelines, such as Ice Cubes for iPhone/iPad or Fedilab for Android.

If you're comfortable using Github, you can vote for following Local to be added to core Mastodon at github.com/mastodon/mastodon/i

Are you trying to find your contacts from Twitter on Mastodon?

There are online tools which can help with this, however Twitter is apparently going to shut them down by Thursday 9th February.

If you want to use these, now would seem to be your last chance:

🔍 Fedifinder

A third tool, Movetodon, has already been shut down by Twitter.

P.S., when I said that the instructions acted a bit like they knew more than the developers, I didn't mean that they were intending to. I just thought their approach didn't really take into account the intention of the developers.
That said, I recognize that amiibo trainers have spent much, much, much more time than the short amount of time I spent training mine.

More notes:
• It beat an Incineroar FP, known as the best FP, so it may have needed some work.
• My FP was imported from Smash 4.

Show thread

• Ultimate uses 540 bytes of data in the amiibo for the FP. That's very, very small!

Also, I wonder if I can change its "personality"/playstyle without adjusting the move sliders by fighting it with a character that doesn't have any of its moves?

Show thread

Some notes:
• I don't know how to use neutral-special (Needle Storm) very well, and it seemed to be reflected in my FP's behavior.
• I tried to prioritize up-special (Vanish)
• I didn't use side-special (Burst Grenade) much. I'm guessing Nintendo might have sliders for competence as well as "frequency" of moves, which might explain why it isn't very good at burst grenade (and needle storm) when it does decide to use it.
• It got the "Realistic" personality type, fun.

I wanted to have all the sliders up, so the AI could choose what was appropriate, and use its full moveset, but with some sliders turned up extra as I judged. I avoided "spamming" any moves, and tried to use prioritize moves I thought it would be better at.
I'm glad to say that my FP turned out pretty well, even behaving better than I thought was possible, for a Sheik amiibo. Heh, or maybe I just lucked out, and my theorizing was irrelevant. I didn't even spend a lot of time training it.
