I know lots of folks don't use correct punctuation on line, but when you want to, how to do end a sentence so that the link still works? Do you put a space before the "." or "?", do you try to reword the sentence so the link isn't the last word, or do you put it at the end and not worry about your readers' application correctly identify the link vs. punctuation?

When I visited Canada I was surprised at how much better the chocolate, even the inexpensive mass-produced chocolate, tasted compared to comparable brands in the US.

I could be because Canada has tighter regulations on % of chocolate in their recipes, but today I learned it was probably also the lack of lead and cadmium: metro.co.uk/2022/12/29/hershey

I've been very careful in how I approach pixelfed development in regards to Instagram and their ToS/trademarks.

This is why you can't crosspost, or otherwise access IG apis via Pixelfed.

They are grasping at straws at this point, along with banning Pixelfed urls, this behavior is desperate.

We must be doing something right 😉

Merry Christmas y'all! Wishing you all the best possible.

@survey I like it when advanced software intentionally differentiates between advanced users and inadvanced users; E.g. having the basic settings in the settings window but then having a section labeled "Additional settings" or "Advanced settings".

I also think it's a good idea to make dangerous settings only available in e.g. config files; that way, hopefully a lot of the users who shouldn't touch them are excluded if they don't put in a bit of effort.

This boarding school banned smartphones. The results were promising!

There's no such thing as too many screens:

Hello from the command line! I'm posting this from a terminal :)

There's a new groups system for the Fediverse called chirp.social. More info at:

➡️ chirp.social

You can join a group by following the group account. You can post to the group by @-ing the group account, which then reposts that to all its other followers

It is similar to the existing a.gup.pe system, but chirp.social allows a group manager to delete posts and ban people from the group.

It works on all Fediverse platforms including Mastodon.

What if we call the cram/study time right before a test Cruddy Time

Mastodon and the Fediverse are at their best when you are following lots of people, not only because you see their posts, but because you also see the posts they share. Seeing lots of shares makes it much easier to discover stuff.

➡️ For tips on finding people to follow click here: fedi.tips/how-to-use-mastodon-

Following people is how discovery works on here. There's no computer algorithm pushing stuff to you, instead there are millions of human beings manually sharing stuff they find interesting.
