Gotta #confess...
I miss the sounds of hard disks clicking.
It was such great auditory feedback regarding your computer's state, and it was so great to HEAR your computer working.
Haven't had one as a primary/boot disk since 2014 or earlier.
Of course, they were pretty quiet by then.
I don't miss my screaming 20MB miniscribe so much.
Well... maybe even that one. X"-D

Every so often I feel drawn to my #DEC #vt510 terminal. Tonight I've spent an hour or so reading email and browsing the web (yes, with #eww) on it. Despite, or perhaps /because/, its limitations, something about it seems familiar and comfortable.
And I'm writing this toot using the #cli program called #toot, from my amber 80x25 screen on a vt510 that's nearly 30 years old. toot reminds me of IRC in a way, and I think that's a good thing.
How often are you in the #Fediverse?
Please boost or share!
If you're starting a brand new account on a Fediverse server, it's not a good idea to post lots of content before you have followers.
The only people who can see your posts on the Fediverse are those on your server, those on other servers which have at least one person following you, or those who see your post shared.
If you post all your best content up front on a brand new account with no followers, no one outside your server will be able to see it. Even if they follow you later, the posts you made before that will not be visible to them, because Fedi platforms don't backfill old posts on accounts you follow.
It's much better to gradually add content as your follower numbers grow.
You only need one follower from a server in order for everyone on that server to see your post. Even if you only have a dozen followers, that's up to 12 other servers that can see what you post.
(Sorry for repost, I phrased original post really badly!)

If you're creating a username on PeerTube, don't use dots (i.e. full stops, periods, points).
Dots in usernames break compatibility with other Fediverse servers, and people won't be able to follow your account from outside PeerTube.
If you're an #Apple user, apparently today is a good day to update your stuff.

Are you looking for accounts to follow on here?
There are three directories you should have a look at:
โธ Trunk - A community-run opt-in directory which people can add themselves to, with lots of categories and people listed. Link is https://communitywiki.org/trunk
โธ Fediverse.info - Keyword based opt-in directory, people can add themselves with hashtags in their profiles. Link is https://fediverse.info/explore/people
โธ FediFollows - Human-curated directory of recommended follows, you can see the latest entries at @FediFollows and there's a directory by category at https://mastodon.online/@FediFollows/108521414258703203

I'm not sure if I'm using too many #hashtags
Just a quick reminder to all that that neither #KDE nor #GNOME is better. GNOME is meant to be adaptive and out of your way, whereas #Plasma is meant to be familiar and user centric. Both fill each other's gaps really well.
They both regularly collaborate and push the same standards like Flatpak and Wayland. They don't compete with each other like they used to a long time ago.

@RL_Dane Looking at pictures of old computers and playing with their software in emulators, I miss these machines I never had the privilege of using.
The lost days when computers were largely to-the-point and ethical... I hate having to worry about rights-violating engineering, updates, vulnerabilities and remote controlling. Ack!
Hello there!
I boost a lot of posts, but I have a few things to say every now and then.
I am largely fine with boosting posts from people I disagree with even on significant, dividing issues. I usually don't, however, if they actively advocate for these ideas... so it goes :/
