@thatonecalculator @survey Are you sure that's it? Voting functions for me, except for any stop.voring.me polls.

@thatonecalculator @joao @survey I voted in it and it looks like it didn't work unfortunately.

Apple has finally killed its ill-conceived plan to scan photos for CSAM. This is a direct result of work by experts and activists. Speaking up is important and sometimes we win.

@Gargron Ooh neat!
Does "reblogged" get changed to "boosted" though?

@jimbob @scottmatter TBF that's a huge issue for email where it's between private parties and you want to convey ideas that aren't supposed to be seen by anyone else. It works for a Twitter style social media because the whole idea is that everything's public.

And so @e33io@fosstodon.org's KDE odyssey begins, out into the realm of wobbly windows and desktop widgets, panels and window decorations.

@sokian The future frightens me. I feel like we shouldn't be capable of doing these, and yet here we are.
You know? Like the Deep Blue chess computer.

@e33io@fosstodon.org I think I do sometimes.

Scariest computer moment?

@RL_Dane And this is a 10-year-old laptop? Better than I would have thought. (I don't know what Srbds is though)

@RL_Dane I wish it wasn't this way. I'd love the ability to switch vulnerable processor optimizations on and off, per-process, if possible. So I can choose between speed and security. Is it a thing?

Spec store bypass: Mitigation; Speculative Store Bypass disabled via prctl and seccomp
Spectre v1: Mitigation; usercopy/swapgs barriers and __user pointer sanitization
Spectre v2: Mitigation; Enhanced IBRS, IBPB conditional, RSB filling, PBRSB-eIBRS SW sequence
Srbds: Mitigation; Microcode
Tsx async abort: Not affected

[2/2]

@RL_Dane Vulnerabilities:
Itlb multihit: KVM: Mitigation: VMX disabled
L1tf: Not affected
Mds: Not affected
Meltdown: Not affected
Mmio stale data: Mitigation; Clear CPU buffers; SMT vulnerable
Retbleed: Mitigation; Enhanced IBRS

[1/2]

@RL_Dane More cores? Higher RAM speed maybe. Improvements and speed upgrades here and there I'd think.
Ooh, also hardware vulnerability fixes. Meltdown and Spectre are a 👎👎
I have an Intel i7 10th gen. lscpu says that it isn't affected by Meltdown 😀 though it says that Spectre and a number of other vulns are only mitigated.
