@je5perl Thanks for that. So far, with other laws like EU DSA or UK Online Safety Act, there are size-based regulations. I feel like we have to repeat this whole discussion all over again. The same stuff is all relevant here. So for example, one person sets up app distribution for their family, then they'll have to do age ratings and restrictions? With the F-Droid tooling, it really is that simple.

There is this story that when times get tough, then need more powers and to provide . But this is not based on the facts, but fiction. Shows like Homeland or movies like Bourne portray that. Facts and real world experience tell a very different story, that overall, this approach leads to domestic abuses and escalation of foreign conflicts rather than resolution, although it can help in specific circumstances

Okay Mark. 🤥

Muse might look like an amazing AI assistant - BUT - knowing that Meta makes huge profits off collecting your data & its history with unethical practices, can you actually trust the tech giant with access to every aspect of your digital life?

We certainly wouldn't!

To anyone following the , does anyone understand how the current proposal would affect and ? From what I have seen, it seems to not directly regulate us, but I just heard that it might.

The scale of the is absurd and now being :

"These arrangements transform rather than eliminate risk. Moving assets into separately financed vehicles can raise leverage..."

Where've I heard this story before? I recall something about how -backed became magically risk-free, then everyone put so much money into them, then... anyone remember 2008? Could we at least agree to not bail them out this time? That worked for

How long will it take for #OpenAI to be charged with attacking other computing systems? If individuals were being found out doing all these things, they would likely already have been under intense investigation or been arrested.

Turns out that OpenAI has an AI ban in place in their work 🤣

@lehtimaeki I totally agree. On one hand, I think people are legitamately scared of what Big AI is doing to the world, but are all too often attacking the communities that actually can offer real paths to avoid Big AI. The conspiracy theorist side in me says: maybe Big AI is generating this shitstorm using the disinfo agents that their products are so good at making to take out the develoepr communities that effectively resist them.

@neil You have contributed an immense amount and leave F-Droid in a better place than when you joined. Thank you for your contributions! I will especially miss your ability to cut through the confusion and quickly get down to the heart of the matter. F-Droid is a tiny team that so many expect the world from. And amazingly, we have delivered quite a bit, thanks to contributions like yours. Good luck with your future endeavors and I hope you stay in touch!

@draken @fdroidorg We work to make sure that old versions remain working. That said, it is not likely that security issues in old unsupported releases will be fixed.

We've been working diligently to get #FDroid Client ready for release.

If naming our releases 'alpha' or 'rc' impeded you to update, now you are free to install.

As usual we are exercising this as a stage roll-out, so you can now expand Versions and install 2.0.

If it's the first time, or even the n-th time, you've heard about our new client work, you can read all the gritty details in the 15 mins post: f-droid.org/2026/09/24/f-droid

To everyone involved in delivering 2.0, a sincere "Thank You!"

It looks quite clear that is on the same path at but with a lot more money and industry behind it. Both are based on a small kernel of a good and useful idea. But the vast majority of what they are actually good for is shitty, anti-social, harmful, and all too often, criminal. Two recent examples:

@neil I agree, I'm talking about the actual power structures of the organizations. Debian is a constitutional democracy of its core contributors that have agreed to put users and free software first as a community: "Our priorities are our users and free software"

debian.org/social_contract

Users do not have a vote. From what I've heard, Wikimedia Foundation is similarly controlled by the volunteer editors.

Do you know of any free software project where users have a defined binding vote?

@neil I don't think that's true for a volunteer-driven project. Basically no one wants to volunteer to take orders. Contributors volunteer to make something they believe in. The protection for the users is free software itself. If users don't like how a project is running, they can fork, or support someone else who forks. This is the difference between Debian, which is run by volunteer contributors, vs Ubuntu/RedHat/etc which are companies that serve customers to make a profit.

@eighthave The SDK hands you five tools and no glue: aapt2, d8, zipalign, apksigner and bundletool each stand alone, and the only official way to chain them is the Gradle plugin, a JVM build for what is a shell script's worth of steps. Every wrapper is someone reaching for the shell script.

@rene_mobile I totally agree, that sounds like a good idea. Do you think it would actually happen though? I could see it happening in some countries, but it seems quite unlikely to happen in the US or China. Honestly, I could see China holding executives accountable before the US does. Tech billionaires own the Federal Government and also key state governments.

So I just saw this new system . It seems to be yet another wrapper project in the . What is it about Android that make it sprout so many wrapper layers?

Arms control treaties work. They are perfect example of how could be regulated:

"Treat compute, the main ingredient in AI training, like fissile material. Track it and restrict access to quantities large enough to improve AIs beyond known-safe levels."
