How on earth did @PCMag manage to publish a piece on certificate authorities and only focus on the paid ones without a single mention of @letsencrypt? Can you comment on this @gleefulmischief? To conclude that "You usually get what you pay for" is grossly misleading. https://twitter.com/PCMag/status/1049419422362931200

<<I do sort of love the fact that people think a species that can't manage a perfect 4-billion-year old self-sustaining solar-powered biosphere surrounded by its own self-generated forcefield are gonna somehow be able to build a viable space habitat. >>
This belief is the Atlas Shrugged myth, the idea that all the problems of Earth are caused by other people, the untermenschen, that if you just put all the self-selected supermen together you get paradise.
It's what's driving Silicon Valley's Cloud and Big Data and Disruption fixation. It's what's driving transhumanism and "rationalist" cults and Bitcoin and the alt-right. It's what's making SV ignore the inflated rents they're cursing cities with and the suffering that causes.
It's fascism.
No matter which social network you're on, following a diverse group of people helps you taking a peek at the other side of your personal filter bubble.
You don't have to agree with everything and everyone, but please, at least try to listen to people and their opinions.
It will help you appreciate your own life, and may just make you a little wiser.
Say hello to Telephant!
I've written a little Mastodon client for the Desktop - called Telephant - and am currently looking for beta testers!
Want to help out and don't mind compiling the app yourself? (Don't worry it's fairly straight forward and I've added detailed instructions to the README!)
Join me here:

Looking forward to hearing your feedback!

In Idaho, a judge has ruled that law enforcement cannot compel a person to unlock their phone with a fingerprint because it would violate their 5th Amendment rights, following a similar ruling in California earlier this year.

In the previous ruling, a California judge decided that both face and finger biometrics are protected.

What The @#$%&! (Heck) is this #! (Hash-Bang) Thingy In My Bash Script
You've seen it a million times—the hash-bang (#!) line at the top of a script—whether it be Bash, Python, Perl or some other scripting language. And, I'm sure you know what its purpose is: it specifies the script interpreter that's used to execute the script. But, do you know how it actually works?

Librem 5 hardware update report for May 8th!
Including: Display drivers accepted upstream, Mesa, SMS, and compositor work.

For those of you using Librem Chat on Android, the latest version (0.1.4) removes any code traces from trackers left behind in the upstream Riot codebase (we had disabled them before but the code itself was still there).
Tech companies and online platforms have other ways to address the rapid spread of disinformation, including addressing the algorithmic “megaphone” at the heart of the problem, and giving users control over their own feeds. https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2019/05/censorship-cant-be-only-answer-disinformation-online

Here's a list of my 3 favorite podcasts for tech-life:
Linux Podcast and general GNU paraphernalia talk. @klaatu is the host with his nice coffee breaks and Slackware as a base.
@lunduke hosts this podcast with his quirky humor and fun projects! I don't know his favorite/current distro. 😔
@linuxjournal puts this one on. They also have interesting discussion about the whole tech world.
Enjoy!
So, Mr. @lunduke Sir, here I am.
As I said, I'll follow you everywhere 😉
