@shawnp0wers Yeah events like that are useful specifically because they point out gaps like that. In my case we have an external tube speaker for the TV that doesn't automatically power back on.

@shawnp0wers Same here, and one of the reasons I used nagios for so long too. Reliability counts for a lot more than a fancy interface, especially after I've already climbed the learning curve.

I saw this graph on HN and people are arguing about how they’ll need to get more familiar with low-level asm again. That’s not really the lesson I take. Seems like the real lesson is: get better at writing multi-threaded tasks and outsourcing work to other machines.

Btw. on #Mastodon you can edit your posts and as it is #FreeSoftware everyone can do that, no matter from which country.

I've noticed that the past few days I have been checking Mastodon first. The new influx of people and the increase in boosting from people I follow has made this timeline much more interesting!

Not a "social on phone" guy but making an exception as I warm up on Mastodon. The web app on Android with an installed bookmarklet / app works just fine, no need to find a dedicated app if you don't care to. Pro tip: the search bar is hiding under the Explore (#) menu.

@yaelwrites We have never had trick or treaters visit but we buy some candy just in case. Yet this year we did get one batch of visitors who were walking by in a large group. I think they saw the porchlight come on and followed the pizza delivery person over.

The one tool that I missed the most when moving to a ⁨⁩ ⁨⁩ years ago were scissors. I was inspired by a mod that attached Wave scissors to the caribiner end, but I moved it to replace the pocket clip. Works well so far! ⁨

These fast ⁨⁩ projects are a nice departure from the more involved ones. Here's a merino wool scarf I wove this weekend on my rigid heddle loom (my floor loom is still dressed for a different project).

@LovesTha @xahteiwi If you have a USB->serial adapter that works in Linux with mainline kernel support then it should work on the phone. I connected a standard software defined radio tuner to mine (both directly and when docked to the laptop) and gqrx ran like expected.

@xahteiwi I discuss it all in more detail with a number of photos in this post: puri.sm/posts/my-first-year-of

@xahteiwi Should work fine with either a Librem 5 or Pinephone if you are running an OS with convergence (PureOS and Mobian are examples). I'm typing this from a Librem 5 docked into a UPERFECT X Mini laptop dock (and before that a Nexdock 360) that is acting as my personal laptop and when docked it's basically a desktop OS. I've been using a set up like this for over a year now.

@Viss Pretty chill, a whole morning full of weaving (I have a present I need to finish in time for someone's birthday).

My political philosophy boils down to: we are interdependent, that is a good thing, and rights go hand-in-hand with responsibilities 🤝

For me, social media is a core part of how I learn. I like to connect with people who have different lived experiences than I do.

My posts tend to be a chaotic mix of personal and professional. #Introduction #TwitterMigration

For the coming year, I will probably take on more projects that combine weaving and sewing. I will probably also make some more napkins or towels for the house so we have more than the too-fancy-to-use overshot ones I made this year (we used them anyway).

I also have started adding ⁨⁩ into my ⁨⁩ projects. My first attempt was sewing simple seams to make a pillow with a krokbragd pattern, and most recently I took on a pretty major project of sewing a tote bag. In the future I plan to try making garments too.

I also made a two rugs that we are using at entrances into our house. The first I made on the rigid heddle loom using a krokbragd technique and the second on my floor loom using rep weave. It only took a week or two to work up nerve to wipe our feet on them.
