If you want a link to be clickable on here, remember to include https:// at the beginning when you're writing it.
Twitter automatically turns any phrase with a dot in the middle into a link, but that doesn't happen on Mastodon etc because sometimes people want to include dots in phrases that aren't links.
(This also applies to other kinds of link protocol such as gemini:// etc)
I'm entered in a college #supersmashbros competition!
I'm actually not that good (outside of the living room :) ); I'm a little above a level-8 auto. But I'll see how long I can hang on!

Hello World!
GIMP project now gets a new official Mastodon account! 🥳
We can see the info leaked somehow (we had not announced it and already got 150+ followers in 2 days) 😂.
GIMP news will be coming here too, from now on!

@Big_Diggity Eternal life starts here.
Let's do a little #obfuscated code #challenge for fun!
What one-liner (in a language of your choice) can you think of that produces the string "unix" on a terminal (an xterm-compatible one, say)?
A simple starter:
puts("clip\bx\run");
If you have an indepdently hosted WordPress blog, you can turn it into a Fediverse server using a special plug-in. This means that people on Mastodon etc. can follow your blog and interact with it.
You can install it on your blog by logging into the WordPress dashboard, go to Plugins > Add New, then search for "ActivityPub". The plug-in you want is called "ActivityPub" and is by Matias Pfefferle.
You can also see more info about it at https://wordpress.org/plugins/activitypub and the author is on the Fediverse at @pfefferle
Once it's installed, you can find the blog's Fediverse address in your WordPress dashboard's Users section, it's listed at the bottom of the user's profile options. You can copy and paste this address into the search box on Mastodon etc to interact with that user's blog.
You'll also see an ActivityPub section in the Settings menu.
Note : This plug-in only works on independently hosted WordPress-powered blogs. It doesn't work on Wordpress.com free blogs.
I love my netbook, but it's small (that's why I bought it!) and all the keys on the keyboard are close to each other, so sometimes I press the power button instead of the backspace and turn the device off. It's annoying...
To disable this key on systemd systems just edit the /etc/systemd/logind.conf file, uncomment the HandlePowerKey line and change the command to ignore the key, so:
HandlePowerKey=ignore
@oss It's kinda like an Amazon Echo, but made with mostly publicly available parts with the exception of a custom board and a fully open source software stack. You can literally run the whole thing offline if you want, or use their cloud based backend. The software is written in Python and can be easily added to with Skills to perform whatever task you want.
I agree, except that anyone should be able to flip a hidden switch on hardware they own that:
1) Formats the disk (overwrites first MB or so of encrypted volume)
2) Marks a CPU fuse/flag saying that this device no longer plays DRM games or runs the console OS
3) Unlocks the bootloader
4) Exposes full hardware access to any OS or software you choose to install
This should be standard on ALL hardware sold, of ANY kind, and enforced by law.
You know, I am strongly against PC's being locked down against user freedom, but I'm mostly fine with #DRM on #videogame consoles. It is fairer to the game developers, as it makes it more difficult to pirate games and run pirated copies.
In my opinion, your PC being free of DRM and lockdowns should be a right at this point, but why would we need that right on a computer solely for recreational purposes, to the detriment of its content creators?
Hello there!
I boost a lot of posts, but I have a few things to say every now and then.
I am largely fine with boosting posts from people I disagree with even on significant, dividing issues. I usually don't, however, if they actively advocate for these ideas... so it goes :/
