I'm either gonna downgrade ("downgrade") from this expensive PC, or I'm gonna see if I can replace its socketed CPU with one with (non-Nvidia) integrated graphics.

Reminded of how the things of the world don't satisfy ( #Christianity ) ultimately.

@wraptile Well the idea is that it *removes* a lot of what makes a phone addicting, not just locks down. But I get the argument.
To me it's more of a personal thing, since while I can put in the energy to not be on the phone too much, the idea of the phone just *not being able to* do the addicting things would spare me the energy.
Really just depends on the person, and there's nothing inherently wrong with either way. There's a reason why these phones sell and a reason why they don't sell a lot.

@btp DANG it looks so good. The dial for screen brightness and flashlight, the dedicated two-level shutter button (also opens the camera tool), the UI, it's just great.
But it also has 6GB of RAM (not sure why that much), no headphone jack, no [micro]SD -card slot, and is made in China (despite the high-ish price). If it were open-source, though, I would probably buy it anyway right now. #LightPhone #LightPhone3

@bryceac It's my go-to TUI texteditor nowadays. I like how it uses modern-day keyboard shortcuts instead of what Nano uses.

OK, so I tried a few other Nvidia drivers. Not working. Actually briefly considered switching to a much cheaper laptop I have on hand, just to get away from Nvidia. But it's Lenovo (I try to avoid Chinese tech, for obvious reasons); might be worth it though.
I had just assumed that by buying a #System76 I could avoid compatibility issues, but... here we are. (To System76's credit, though, they're very up-front about their laptops using Nvidia GPUs.)

@royal I didn't think about storage. That makes sense.

@royal I do wish, however, that they said what to do to actually *fix* the screen locker, or gave an error code so you could look it up on a forum, or in a manpage/documentation.

@royal Huh, I think I've seen that before.
I love it when programmers put help instructions in an error message instead of just saying "something went wrong".
