American naturalist, essayist, poet, and philosopher Henry David Thoreau died #OTD in 1862.
In addition to "Walden," Thoreau is well-known for his essay "Civil Disobedience," which was inspired by his 1846 arrest for refusing to pay poll taxes as a protest against slavery and the Mexican-American War. His political writings later influenced many political leaders, including Mahatma Gandhi and Martin Luther King Jr.

@xianc78 best series I've seen so far was The Wire which I think is somewhere in between of those two choices. It's a world, but also characters, and you do follow the same characters over time.

I remember how nervous I was when (in early 2020) I went to the post office with my #Librem5 📱 to drop off a 📦 and present the barcode on the phone. (Having previously scp'ed the pdf to the phone to show it in evince).
Would the 🔋 last? Would it overheat? Would the display stack hold? It worked.
Nowadays I don't spend a thought: Fill in the data on my laptop, save the pdf, have it synced automatically via #syncthing to #phosh's ticket-box folder and show it at the counter. ✅

Det går också att ta strid om det är så att man förväntas klicka "accept" på någon sorts villkor från t.ex. Microsoft som skulle ge Microsoft tillgång till information om en själv. Man kan säga att jag accepterar villkor från universitetet, men jag tänker inte acceptera att data om mig skickas till Microsoft. Jag tror inte att universitetet egentligen har rätt att kräva att studenterna ska skicka sitt data till Microsoft. Det är fel, men görs av gammal dålig vana.

Jag vet ju att folk sällan orkar göra det, men det där är egentligen ett väldigt bra tillfälle för studenten att klaga. Om man är antagen till en utbildning med vissa villkor, då har man rätt till den utbildningen, och om de inte skrev tydligt när man blev antagen att "denna kurs är endast för Microsoft-kunder", då måste de rimligen låta en student gå kursen utan Microsoft.

One of my favourite parts is when a resistance guy is writing some anti-roman slogan on a wall, and a roman soldier spots him and is upset about grammatical errors, so forces him to write the anti-roman slogan again 100 times grammatically correct 😄
@marcusosterberg mm det hade varit spännande om man kunde vara medveten om när man själv ändrat sina värderingar, och varför. Jag tror förändringen oftast sker smygande på nåt sätt och man låtsas att man inte alls ändrat sina värderingar, men om man skulle ha haft något skrivet svart på vitt skulle det bli uppenbart. Man skulle kunna ha som en debatt med sitt eget tidigare jag, och förhoppningsvis kunna förklara varför man har rätt nu och varför man hade fel förut.

Be careful with the "All or Nothing"
approach in regard to data privacy.
Absolutes can be misleading.
For example, it is not because it’s not possible to delete ALL traces of ALL your data that deleting at least the visible data isn’t worth it.
Reducing your digital traces, even when it is not completely erasing your digital traces, almost always offer some benefits to increase your privacy and security online.
Giving up however very rarely helps.
