@glynmoody I've had that thought also, maybe this current crop of AI will make social media so bad that people will go back to meeting up and talking to each other 😃

I've just published a blog post on a new sample of Android/BianLian botnet which uses (1) an intentionally bad formed ZIP, and (2) uses a new packer.

By the way, this will be covered in my @ringzer0 training.

@glynmoody I agree that copyright is a monopoly that is hugely overused and abused but I think it is also a useful tool to slow down and restrict development. I don't think creators are going to really win much either way with this particular copyright battle, but it is pretty clear that the current AI methods will be hindered, and they are another iteration of tech like cryptocurrencies, where the vast majority of the users are harmful, but the tiny useful features are heavily promoted

The jury in Epic v. Google has delivered its verdict — and it found that Google turned its Google Play app store and Google Play Billing service into an illegal monopoly.

@Mer__edith Here is one thing Signal could be doing that it is not: the Signal fork @mollyim has already implemented support, Signal can help there, or even integrate that work github.com/mollyim/mollysocket

@Mer__edith @unifiedpush @fdroidorg and since you mentioned the world, there are 1.4 billion mobile phone users in China without Apple or Google push. There are half a billion users around the world who do not have access to Apple or Google push. devices are sold around the world, including here in Austria. Signal's stance on push really only works in North America. 2/2

@Mer__edith I respect the work that Signal has done, and Signal has been a great leader in pushing e2ee over the past 15 years. Signal can also do better on push. It is not a binary choice, other options provide much improved privacy with smaller hit on battery usage. @unifiedpush does that and falls back to Google push for devices that don't have built-in. @fdroidorg is also helping to get it integrated into etc f-droid.org/2022/12/18/unified

In addition, we strongly advise developers to encrypt their push notifications, recommending #WebPush (following RFC 8291, forget about this draft abandoned 7 years ago!) or to adopt a sync-on-push strategy (which is what Signal does).

@unifiedpush have you considered applying for a grant from ? I'd be happy to help with the process nlnet.nl/commonsfund/

@Codeberg as part of defo.ie, we are assisting free software projects of all kinds to implement (). This would hide the domain that users are connecting to, e.g. codeberg.org, *.codeberg.page, etc. If you are interested, let me know and I'll see what we can do to help.

@zorun @FAU mirror.level66.network/ is one of the new mirrors that was added in November, it also has some basic stats. As far as I can tell, there is only total numbers for the mirror. We're on track to more than double that mirror's bandwidth usage since /fdroid/ was added

@zorun @FAU any chance you could post your stats to JSON files on the mirror server?

@zorun @FAU thanks for running your too! I hadn't seen your stats posts before, that's interesting to see. The current algorithm for choosing mirrors is random, so I wonder why ftp.fau.de sees 8TB/day while tetaneutral sees 1.4TB/day? I guess ftp.fau.de's stats might also include rsync, and many mirrors rsync from ftp.fau.de. This might also explain the steeper decline in November: a couple mirrors switched away from ftp.fau.de to rsyncing from primary mirrors.

Sehr schick: die Nachtzugkarte. Interaktiv mit (vermutlich) allen Nachtzug-Linien in Europa.

is consistently growing in its bandwidth usage over the years, as shown by this stats graph from the mirror. Interesting to see the short downward section when we added new official mirrors in April and November.

Thanks @FAU for the mirror, the bandwidth, and the stats! ftp.fau.de/cgi-bin/show-ftp-st
