Unity-inspired attention on Godot

@yuki2501 One of the things I love about emulating older platforms - you can just instantly save and restore the whole machine state at will in the middle of anything πŸ˜‡

alternatives to unity

Reminder that availability & porting of any open-source engine to consoles is only less evident because consoles manufacturers decided their _API_ was sacred & unique & under NDA. First console manufacturer who opens up will see 100+ custom engines avail within a month.

Actually, big thanks to #Unity for elegantly demonstrating a huge part of the risk model of proprietary software.

@FidIsTheOne I went to exbirdsite today just to make fun of Unity. I strive to maintain higher quality of posts than that here 😁

Multiple Render Targets are working - finally. Took me some time to "see" the missing register write in the cmd stream dump.

@dashall At least it's easier to keep the Switch fully powered off when unused - unlike the Switch, I *do* reach for the Deck sometimes, so I get more opportunities to forget to turn it off 🀣

@dimitrisk I'm more of a guitar player and never got comfortable enough with a keyboard, so I have a script on my that plugs in-between two devices and translates the played white keys into any given scale. I can jam live with it quite comfortably πŸ˜‚

Speaking of which, works fine on the phone with pretty good latency! Used it a few times to jam online when the pandemic started 😁

Steam Deck is clearly not made by people who use sporadically! (who would have thought πŸ˜‚)

It doesn't wake up from suspend to shut down cleanly when the battery goes flat. Most of my boots end with "systemd-sleep: Entering sleep state 'suspend'..." in the journal. The battery is probably not entirely happy when staying at 0% more often than not πŸ™ˆ

Writing for a microcontroller while being conscious about heap allocations feels so weird. It's like you get punished anytime you write idiomatic code πŸ˜…

If I was going to make a 3D game I would use #godot, no question. But for 2D, my engine works great and I know it well because I built it.

@stephann Sure; the post was about "free and open source" though, which it certainly is not.

@djlink Defold isn't open source (it has non-commercial clause). The rest are though πŸ‘
