Watch out, I'm a hardware designer now! My first board is here and it works!
Super happy with the "ambient light" effect:) There's one LED shining at the back into the hand, and another behind the screen, giving the impression of light passing through the PCB. Quite mesmerizing.
I still need to put side LEDs on (one for each of the touch pads), but those tiny SK6812-4020 turned out to be way beyond my amazing soldering skills ๐
POV: a few years ago you uploaded a bunch of games into Google Play that:
- are fully Free Software
- don't gather any user data
- are fully local, no ads
- are complete and finished
- don't really need updating.
One of the games was removed because of "missing privacy policy". Others - I don't even know, they didn't bother to tell me ๐ Seems like the idea that some apps may simply respect the user and not exist to mine for data is unfathomable to Google.
The recording of my #FOSDEM talk - a dive into a bug in USB 2.0 and the problem of spontaneous modem resets that used to be experienced on the #Librem5 is now available to watch: https://fosdem.org/2024/schedule/event/fosdem-2024-3200-universal-serial-bug-a-tale-of-spontaneous-modem-resets/ #linuxmobile #mobilelinux #usb #fosdem24 #fosdem2024 #fossonmobile #mobile #linux
#KiCad project status: 3D view is cool, but apparently not cool enough for @holypangolin. She promptly fixed it though!
I heard that people were against #systemd because of its bloat. Maybe they're right after all, looks like it's got its own 3D engine now!
(jokes aside, everything seems to point to it being #kwin getting misreported for some reason, but nevertheless, this sight has left me seriously confused at first)
Happy to report that my first PCB layout is barely started and already an unworkable mess. It's quite fun to figure #KiCad out on my own with no tutorials though, the only thing I had to look up so far was how to move a component to the other board side ๐
Just pushed a tiny update for Petal Hero with improved A/V delay. Grab it from the app store! #flow3r #flow3rbadge #37c3 #cccamp23 #PetalHero
So turns out I'm going to be speaking at #FOSDEM in February as part of the "FOSS on Mobile Devices" track. We'll go step-by-step through debugging a spontaneous modem reset issue that used to trouble the #Librem5 phone, which - spoiler alert - turned out to be a (not very well-)known bug in the #USB 2.0 spec. Check this and other talks out at https://fosdem.org/2024/schedule/track/foss-on-mobile-devices #fosdem24 #fosdem2024 #linuxmobile
Update your #flow3rbadge to firmware 1.3.0 and get Petal Hero from the app store - it's OUT NOW! Comes with 5 songs bundled, but you can extend it with songs for #FretsOnFire and other similar rhythm games. Here you can see me playing Jono Bacon's version of the Free Software Song - though I do better when not in front of the camera ๐ @flow3rbadge #flow3r #CCCamp23 #37c3 #micropython
WAAAA - my old game where you move the ball using your voice - is now playable in browser for easier casual enjoyment. Check it out โก๏ธ https://dos.itch.io/waaaa #gamedev #indiegame #games #indiedev
For practical reasons, photos that you #ShotOnLibrem5 are processed into JPEGs with lower quality than what the camera can do. There are some (complex) ways in which this processing could be made faster and therefore cram more pixels and algorithms that make things prettier, but meanwhile...
Each photo you take is stored as both raw DNG and processed JPG - so you can go back to raw data and retroactively gain quality. See https://dosowisko.net/l5/photos/ for an example.

Be a Petal Hero! My game for #cccamp23 badge is finally starting to become playable ๐ #flow3r #flow3rbadge #gamedev #fretsonfire
After finally attempting to rescue my long broken #Librem5 devkit, I ended up with it booting into this Feb 2020 image. It already somewhat resembles the current thing, but gosh, we sure have made a lot of progress since then! ๐
Excuse the white balance being all over the place, this was *not* shotonlibrem5 ;)

This month 15 years have passed since I've received my Openmoko Neo FreeRunner, which started my personal adventure with mobile GNU/Linux ๐
I remember wondering back in 2008 whether I should invest myself and my money in Openmoko or Android as both were at their infancy and looking interesting. In hindsight, even though Openmoko does not exist anymore, I'm convinced that I've made the right choice!

Hi, I'm dos. ~80 silly FLOSS games, open smartphones, terrible music. 50% of @holypangolin; 100% of dosowisko.net. he/him/any. I don't receive DMs.
