Look what arrived! Excited to read this book. While today fascism and the far right is the existential threat that justifies any means to eradicate, it wasn't always this way. 18 yrs ago today it was radical (and non-radical) Islam and in the 1950s it was communism and the far left. This book documents CIA studies into mind control to counter the communist threat that resulted in torture of US citizens, death, and countless other atrocities.

Check out my new pocket computer! Ok not exactly new, it's a Tasco Pocket Arithometer from the '40s.

Life, at times, is almost, but not quite, entirely unlike tea

@lunduke

Another idea:

The English dictionary should rename the word "gimp" so that it doesn't conflict with a software project.

I think instead of having a "smart home," I'm going to get a "dumb home" where the only things connected to the internet are my laptop and phone

@lunduke "Maybe the internet wasn't such a good idea"

You have my view, just let me get on the internet real quick to see it :P

I wouldn't know what not having internet technologies would be like, being a relative whippersnapper

I'm feeling so freaking satisfied right now. I'm finally ending a day having fixed a whole bunch of bugs in my main project and somehow not creating any that I couldn't quickly fix. What a night!

@lunduke @lunduke I thought you might be interested in checking out my website, also built entirely with html and css (although sadly it is using html5 and whatever the latest version of css is). Check it out:

I also have a gopher hole where I'm making a (WIP) text based adventure game entirely with text files and links.

And yes, gopher is definitely still alive. You should totally set up a gopher frontend for your video archive, that would be rad as heck.

@lunduke With the end of Linux Journal do you think there's any hope for real journalism to succeed in the future, or are we doomed to a profit motivated politically charged ad infested dystopia of clickbait headlines?

"Users who decline to share footage through the app may have police showing up at their door asking them to share in person if online requests don't work out. Law enforcement can also go to Amazon directly with a valid legal demand and bypass the user's consent to access the footage entirely." arstechnica.com/tech-policy/20

I made some awesome banana pudding for $6 last night, but for some reason Librem Social won't let me post a picture. How sad. But I assure you, it was delicious

I cut caffeine off about a week ago (going from a lot of sodas per day to zero), and had no issues. Even felt slightly better, and it seemed to help my natural sleep cycle, cause I can wake up earlier and feel better.

Then I tried to cut off sugary foods, and it has been HARD. Especially since there are always a lot of cookies at work, and a gas station within walking distance with lots of candy. But worse, I've had this hunger that won't get satisfied till I have a sugary drink or something.

I can't speak for the rest of the @linuxjournal archive, but I own the decade+ worth of articles I wrote. A lot of them are just as relevant today (I refer to them myself quite often). Would anyone be interested in some kind of "Best of Hack and /" polished and updated compilation?

Yesterday, me and my coworker were discussing philosophy (specifically, the convo started with me saying that "I think, therefore I am" is stupid). We ended up talking about the nature of sentience and free will for about an hour, and it made me realize how much I miss having someone to discuss philosophy with at odd times.
