@luke
I'm pretty sure I've stayed at the hotel Luke is filming from, near one of the beaches of Florida. Nice place, too bad I didn't get to stay for long
Is the problem that the govt. is buying location data w/o a warrant, or that data brokers can collect and sell it to begin with? We have to change the incentives driving the whole mobile app economy. This is something I wrote about in this article: https://puri.sm/posts/mobile-app-stores-and-the-power-of-incentives/
The U.S. Defense Intelligence Agency shouldn't be spying on Americans, without a warrant, by paying data brokers for location info generated by our phone apps. https://www.nytimes.com/2021/01/22/us/politics/dia-surveillance-data.html
@derek have you any experience with the Librem One suite? I've been a user for a good while, and have yet to experience any censorship or issues with downtime, and Purism is committed to not collecting or selling user data. It is also cheaper than buying a vpn, fully private mail suite, or a server to self host all of the utilities, which is very important to me, as I can't afford too much,being a student.
I assume we're gonna see a video on this subject soon? I hope you've been enjoying livrewolf, it's been my browser of choice for a good while (supplemented with Brave)

If you think these hardware cryptographic security measures are actually about customer security and not vendor control, I have printers to sell you that reject refilled ink cartridges and farm tractors you aren't allowed to repair.

The thing about that is the huge price difference. The Pinebook Pro intends to be a budget project.

Due to FB and app developer pressure, Apple changed their mind about mandating apps ask permission before tracking users in iOS 14. That lobbying power should tell you everything you need to know about how much money is made through tracking in iOS apps: #privacy
I was notified that @tateisu's Mastodon app "Subway Tooter" has received a warning from the Google Play Store citing user-generated content that "incites discrimination".
A Mastodon app does not host or promote any content. The user types the address to connect to. The responsibility of moderating resides with that server. So unless Google is going to drop Chrome, Firefox and Opera from its platform, this is completely out of line.

Imagine the bugs! Like, "There was a bug in your memory augmenting app, so sorry, you have amnesia now."
@kyle
You have so many good arguments for this, I genuinely hope people will understand why this idea is fundamentally awful
It reminds me of standard NSA denials on spying in a particular way "in this program" because they use a different program to do that.

I would be the first to complain about linux audio issues (with pulseaudio and alsa), but JACK is a godsend in terms of audio production. I'll have to check this out, but I'll also say Ardour is pretty great!

I was confused when you said Arco differentiated itself from vanilla Arch more than Artix, since I would consider various different init systems and multiple graphical installer options to be more different than simply a wider range of installers and pre-configuration. What else is there about Arco that sets it apart for you?
Both of my usual morning coworkers (both of whom have been doing this for longer than me) don't seem to have realized that the cooking process does not end when you take the cookies out of the oven, and if they are really firm and getting dark when you take them out, they will be crispy and not soft. And not in a good way
