@kyle @patrick I contribute to the projects that I package. I often recognize other distribution package maintainers (whose names I know through repology) contributing too ... often to 'minor'/point releases.
The mentality is "this bug bugs me, I want it fixed before releasing to my [distro's] users", which may result in carrying a downstream patch which is quickly upstreamed, and sometimes encouraging upstream to release a point release with the fix.

@DMakarios I filled in A as Alice and B as Bob, assuming that Alice is Bob's wife and has better taste, so I picked option 1: she has to see him wearing them afterall, and she's the one you're accountable to for reimbursement.

@dngrs @mntmn I believe phrog has some rust in it, and it's gnomey, based on #phosh . It's made for mobile, not perfect on desktop

@duncan_bayne we went with a OnePlus 6T (degoogled android).

The upside is that you can install syncthing to automatically sync the photos to other devices.

From a technical perspective, I can see why there would be hurdles (halium, downstream 4.19 kernel). Personally I'm interested in your project, but am led to believe it requires hacks to run phosh (meaning I couldn't run my pet project on your hardware without a lot of work).
I'd rather put my money into a project with mainline momentum/potential, otherwise refurbished androids still win on features/price.

@jameschip tangara uses full-sized SD cards... which would be a lot 'cheaper' to replace than a custom-made tape... but the drawback is that your kid will be wearing headphones so you won't be able to listen along with them.
