@lunduke Bueller?... Bueller?
@eff Time to update the list. Out of three links to groups near me, only one actually worked. One lead to a college's organizations and groups page, but the group wasn't listed. Another took me to a site where the last update was in 2017.
@lunduke #asklunduke The announcement of the Librem5 and the Librem.One set of apps has gotten me very excited about ditching the duopoly of IOS and Android. Sadly, I will not be able to afford the Librem5 when it comes out or anytime soon after. With budget-friendly options like the Pine64 phone soon coming, is now the time to finally make the switch to a Linux phone? And if so, what is the best operating system currently available for my Linux phone?
@PINE64 @sailfishosnews So will the Sailfish OS port be community-driven or will it be coming from Jolla?
@sailfishosnews Is #sailfishos going to be available on the @PINE64 phone? Is it free?

@switchingsocial@mastodon.at It's a tug-of-war between usability and security. I chose to use Telegram and convince some friends to join me. I was only able to do this because it looks, feels, and acts so much like Fbook Messenger which is what they were all accustomed to using. I know the arguments against it- proprietary backend and messages not encrypted unless you choose "secret" chat. But the more secure options are boring, featureless landscapes that I don't want to live in.
People have asked us in the past: why can I trust ProtonVPN? This is a significant question as trust is the most important factor for picking a #VPN service. Here’s why we think ProtonVPN is worthy of your trust: https://www.protonvpn.com/blog/is-protonvpn-trustworthy
@lunduke I would like the following features: 1) No harddrive space. Who needs it? 2) No offline apps. Who gets offline? 3) Relevant adds. Tell me what I want! 4) A big brother to look over my shoulder at everything I type. It makes me feel like I got a guardian angel.
I wonder how the upcoming @PINE64 phone is going to compare to older options. Will I be better off flashing something like @ubports to an old Nexus? I really want a phone running FOSS! Will the new Pine Phone come with the same warning as the Pinebook about not using it for daily life? Or will it be more like the Pro- not powerful but definitely usable? I can't afford a @purism Librem 5 which is what I really want. What's my best (usable) sub-$200 option?
@switchingsocial@mastodon.at I've only played a little with Delta. I like the idea and it seems beginner friendly. My first complaint is that gmail doesn't recognize it as one ongoing conversation like the chat app does. Anyone stuck using their email gets a whole new email for each response instead of seeing it as a reply. Complaint #2 is that protonmail gives an imap error and their idea of help is telling you to ask a friend. That part is not cool for less tech savvy users.
@tinker Your Darknet Diaries story was awesome! It was one of the first episodes I listened to and now I've spent the whole day listening to a dozen more.

Last week, a coalition of 100+ groups demanded that @DHSgov stop the targeting of activists, lawyers, and journalists based on their First Amendment-protected activities. Several senators have now joined the cause, calling DHS's behavior "beyond alarming" https://www.tomudall.senate.gov/news/press-releases/udall-warren-harris-and-blumenthal-to-dhs-stop-unconstitutional-surveillance-of-journalists-activists-and-lawyers
Very exciting call for research:
Mozilla has an interest in potentially integrating more of Tor into Firefox 🔥
Tor has never been deployed at this scale, so there are a lot of considerations to research before giving this a try.
