@alphasixtyfive @chiefgyk3d @gnome @debian
We're talking basically from bootloader, kernel drivers all the way up in userspace, be that wayland protocol bits for input, libhandy/libadwaita, work on invidivual applications and packaging in #Debian and #design work in #GNOME
If you take all of that into account the equation changes quite a bit!
Also: It's hard to actually get manufacturers to talk to you (and not ignore your emails) when you're a small fish in the sea!
3/3
However you might want to consider some additional factors:
Our software developers write #FOSS software and very much like to feed themselves and their families ;)
And while we fortunely build on top of a lot of great projects like @gnome @debian (and lots of others)
**A LOT** of work still had to be done and all of that is being done in the open. Our developers try hard to do the right thing™ and upstream everything.
2/N
Sure, it is a lot of money and we understand how one might come to this conclusion when **only** looking at the hardware specs.
1/N
You might also find it fun that you can switch to a different tty.
@devrtz had to do some last-minute fixing of his #Librem5 before giving a presentation at #DebConf23 😎 a couple of days ago
Breaking the phone you plan to demo with is always fun.
Fixing it, even more so!
Just need a keyboard and run 1 command.
2 hours to go https://debconf23.debconf.org/talks/61-the-year-of-linux-on-desktopwmobile/
I'm a bit concerned about the frequent power losses at the hotel though :D
I'll add image descriptions later, need to work on my slides :P
and need to go for a swim!
This is very exciting!
Thanks to everyone working on #ReproducibleBuilds
We very much need need this!
Verifying #ReproducibleBuilds of packages actually in #Debian ... is not exactly a new thing, but is harder than it ought to be, because you need to rebuild with the exact same packages that the original build was built with, and snapshot.debian.org is less than entirely reliable...
So I tried rebuilding packages recently built on buildd.debian.org and it was reasonably successful.
Long-term we will still need some sort of snapshot-like functionality...

We just reached the 14 million milestone of active Fediverse users.
Not a single ad displayed.
Not a single algorithm suggestion.
Nobody pushing hate speech.
Happy milestone, #Fediverse !
Running MM with --debug, invoking `mmcli -G DEBUG` and grabbing some logs that way could perhaps help to close https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/mobile-broadband/ModemManager/-/issues/253
PureBoot 28 now only contains 281 lines of changes outside of our release build scripts, compared to 2669 in PureBoot 27, an 89% reduction! Librem 5 is now $999 (a $300 Savings)! Due primarily to the overwhelming demand for the Librem 5, we were able to lower our component costs and are now able to pass that savings onto new customers.

An article on @mobian on phones was published in the print edition of dutch #linuxmag.nl! 💓
Subtitled: "Use Debian on your mobile phone"
Thanks to @martijnbraam for telling us!
Nice, apparently I was not completely unproductive yesterday during #DebConf23
I **did** upload the latest #confy after having helped upgrading blueprint-compiler (the required version was bumped) in #Debian .
The #gtk4 version looks absolutely beautiful, but see for yourself in the screencast I just did on my #Librem5 (no hw acccelerated video encoding yet, so that's why its full fps).
This is the sort of app that makes it an absolute joy #daily #driving #phosh !
phosh 0.31.0 is out 🚀📱:
Lots of fixes in #phoc ➕ better xdg-activation ➕ less CPU usage ➕ animations on tiling/max
#phosh now supports the tablet-mode of convertibles (based on work by Jonathan Hall)
p-m-s allows to configure the notification priority for waking up the screen (thanks to Suraj Kumar Mahto).
libcall-ui switched to GTK4 thanks to @antonok.
