@PublicLewdness And no, China is no different. They got all the tech as a gift from the West, but they are hardly pioneering any of it. They'd be perfectly fine without surveillance drones and all that state-wide electronic spying on you, hitting people with a wooden stick would work just as well, tech just made it more scary.

I agree with you, capitalism is hardly the reason for surveillance, but it was capitalism that made it profitable and deadly efficient as a result. USSR was over a decade behind in terms of tech. Why make you buy that nice thin phone to spy on you if you can assign a girl to listen to your calls. And if the girl didn't cut it, they can always send a couple of guys with white hot pliers to listen to your confession. No need for subtle methods if blunt ones work 🤷

Same here! Good thing they have tags and I usually do tag them. I also put them into large folders like tech, politics, music, etc most of the time and I use emoji in folder names, which makes them a bit easier to navigate.

I'm not in the US so I can only base my opinion on what I read/watch, but I had a gut feeling it's like that. And I'm kind of left-leaning myself, but it's not about who's right who's wrong at all. It's about this primitive name-calling that had been successfully exploited by the left — now I see this on both sides. The level of political dialogue is in its low point😩

This makes China all the way more dangerous. They do have a degree of corruption and often do weird shit to their own that can hardly be called effective and good for the society, but they are still pretty good at that and definitely way more subtle.

Russian investigative journos have even found some documents indicating Prigozhin's companies were preparing training camps in Africa for black guys to provoke the crowd during BLM protests.
The intent was definitely there, but proof that it had any effect is yet to be found. I'm never doubting their will to use underhanded tactics, but always question their competence.
