@Rezard

@mdhughes
Damn! My last job involved GIS and I admit, I still have never heard about some of the stuff from that XKCD strip 🤣
@mjdxp

@millihertz Oh, yes, I didn't realize streaming was important part of your setup.
You may run cmus on the host where the library is and stream the audio back using JACK to the computer where you want the sound to come from, but that would be a quirk and a workaround.
cmus does support http, but it appears that https might be a problem: github.com/cmus/cmus/issues/20

@SirPaulCouture
Your words: "…is not a real problem to you"
My words: "While still real…"
Isn't something slightly off with how you perceive my post? 🤔
What I stated was: children are often used as a justification for all sorts of wrong things. Something might be wrong or at least considered controversial, but if it's for the kids — it's alright. Thought isn't exactly new, yet it still holds.
@Knight_of_the_First_State

@neural_meduza

@neural_meduza

@Knight_of_the_First_State While still real, the whole exploiting children problem is seriously blown out of proportion by exact same people to sway public opinion the way they want. Most throw their critical thinking aside when children are involved.

@neural_meduza

@mdhughes
> Northern Canada & Russia would be compressed small
Aren't they actually smaller than what they look when made flat on the map?
We even have a joke about that: no one ever made Russia as great as the Mercator projection did 🤣
@mjdxp

@matrix Thanks for the prompt fix!
Still, time to stop being lazy and start self-hosting!

@mjgardner
Some could even whistle back at 2400 baud, but not beyond that 😂
@opsnlops

@kelbot
I've been using tut a lot recently, I really like it even when using a graphics-capable machine. And I can't agree more! Sometimes seeing a link to png or jpeg isn't incentive enough to open the image viewer. Alt texts help a lot. Of course you can put the description in the post text and I think that's the least most should do, but alt text is more appropriate for that.
@arjache

@mike
Great point! It's true, Google Lens or similar OCR can do that for you, but sometimes it misses the point. The person posting that image on the other hand usually (e.g. if it's something funny) does "get the joke" and knows what to emphasize to make it funny for person speaking different language.
@arjache

@mjdxp But isn't doing it illegally the best part? 😉

@bitsavers Maybe this is the format we should embrace, the web looks like it's going to collapse under its weight anyway 🤷
So much wasted processing power and electricity and disk space. And you can't even archive/preserve that stuff properly, there are certain tools for that, but imagine if Facebook goes out of business, the interconnectedness between all that stuff is lost forever — it just disappears.

@bitsavers Yeah, I remember hating the idea of blogs so much that I didn't want to take part in that. Back when it was a cool thing. But now everything went so much further downhill that old blogs don't even loog that bad.
Gemini kinda brings back that fell for me — when the pages were done by hand. And with gemlogs you don't feel obliged to update constantly. And this can co-exist with pages made by hand nicely.

@GYalgashev@mastodon.ml 😉
