@massonpj yes - that sounds like a virtuous cycle in the making. One wonders why this hasn't long been obvious to most institutions... oh wait - corporate donations, funded chairs, research grants, etc. I suspect some core values at most institutions need to be re-evaluated. @apereo

The successful demonizing of diversity, equity and inclusion in higher education is part of a longstanding right-wing plot to restore white supremacy as fundamental policy in America.

The NYT's Nicholas Confessore has done a superlative job of show how, and why, this happened. This is a long article and you should read it.

Extremist legislators in Tennessee and Oklahoma -- with more right-wing states on the way -- are looking to ban women from traveling out of state for abortions. They also want to imprison anyone who helps them.

Resistance is not futile. This is fascism and has to be stopped.

I'm nervous about ditching Substack, given that the income my newsletter generates makes a difference in my life. I've had hopes of continuing to grow its audience this year rather than chasing side gigs that would be a bigger strain. As a writer and a disabled organizer, discovering that I could give my work away for free and that some folks would support those efforts financially was a godsend. But I'm an antifascist, and that means my work doesn't belong on Substack. organizingmythoughts.org/must-

Protest of >100k people, in Munich, against Nazi scum. This warms my cold dead heart :antifa:

There are a lot of scary things in the world but what Modi is doing in India is right up there. I dropped by Twitter to look for an old post and (spoiler: mistake) hit Trending and found a flood of Modi-fan racists screaming obscene insults at Muslims. Modi is consciously whipping up racist rage against a 200-million-strong group of citizens. If this gets out of control the cost in human lives could exceed many big wars put together. #India #BJP #Hindutva

Steve Baxter, a prominent Australian investor and a judge on Shark Tank, is on record as saying that I am a man pretending to be a woman. It's an old, outdated and uninteresting transphobic trope.

In itself, it's almost not worth mentioning. But Steve's ability to drop discriminatory comments like it's nothing while Australian tech looks the other way is a telling sign of the deep rot that has set in.

"We estimate the Supply-side value of widely-used OSS is $4.15 billion, but that the Demand-side value is much larger at $8.8 trillion ... firms would need to spend 3.5 times more on software than they currently do if OSS did not exist" (#OpenSource)

The only metric that matters after quitting substack

$0 from my writing goes to platforming and funding Nazis.

No matter what my traffic looks like, I'm coming out on top of this one.

It’s not just the Librem 5’s or The Liberty Phone hardware that’s modular. The OS itself is incredibly modular and fully editable to your will. Our defaults and preinstalled apps are well thought out and secure, but it’s just our suggestion of software to use, not a requirement by any means.

Using AI to create a face from crime-scene DNA & then running it through face recognition tech isn’t only “junk science,” EFF’s Jennifer Lynch told @WIRED - “It’s very dangerous, because it puts people at risk of being a suspect for a crime they didn’t commit.”

No recharge: Long-term Prairie drought raises concerns over groundwater levels

'It's been another year of drought. Now these wells are hitting all-time lows'

“It’ll be a climate signal that we’re seeing.”

As predicted by climate change models, drought is desiccating the Prairies, especially southern Alberta
