@AntonHand@twitter.com If more people who depend on creative tools had this realization it could be transformative in terms of tools available to them.

If even fraction of $$$ creatives spend on software tools went to projects like Blender/Krita/Godot/Inkscape their tools could be their own.

Forever.

How do you fund free software sustainably? In this post I talk about some of the main approaches, the problems with some funding models, and specifically how (and why) Purism takes the approach we do. puri.sm/posts/how-purism-funds

Was just talking to a new neighbour briefly, who, it turns out, runs a national gov't owned organisation. We were talking IT systems and she said (clearly expecting me to be impressed) that they were a fully Microsoft shop, and had just moved to a Microsoft Dynamics CRM system. Unfortunately I couldn't help but wince and had to say "you're throwing money into a hole"... We've agreed to discuss it in more detail over a pint in future...

So... I'm keen on the NodeJS and Svelte ecosystems, but I'm keen to avoid Microsoft dependencies - I actively avoid VSCode, Typescript, and Github. I develop on Linux, so is there a viable alternative to npm I can use there, given that it's also now owned (captured) by Microsoft?

Starting to feel conflicted about whether the impact of Richard Wolff is a net positive to the cooperative movement.

He seems very fanatical and quite apologetic towards things like the genocidal Soviet Union.

Framasoft is a brilliant non-profit organisation which promotes free open software and libre decentralised services. You can follow them at:

➡️ @Framasoft (in French and English)

They have been around for years, and developed Fediverse platforms like @peertube and @mobilizon for example.

They depend on donations to keep going, and they're currently doing a fund-raising drive at:

I've been doing more with #coreboot on Chromebook hardware. Liberated an Acer C740 with the mrchromebox.tech firmware. Now that I know how to do it, it's almost easy. Can be intimidating until you successfully flash one, though.

I've flashed two Dell Chromebook 11 3120 laptops to coreboot now and planning on doing a few more soon. I've been using one with #GalliumOS and it has been working well. Battery life is long, Gallium is practical and works as expected (#ubuntu-based so familiar).

What the hell is ""deep tech" supposed to be. rnz.co.nz/news/business/453572 Looks to be a made-up media designation that's never defined and is meant to convey 'technical badassery' to non-tech punters?

People are dying from poverty and lack of education in the shadow of Harvard University - right outside the gates:
In its most recent financial report, released 10/14/21, it also reported a 33.6 percent return on its endowment, which has now grown to $53.2 billion. (Boston Globe)

We are testing out a new experimental feature in PureBoot to extend tamper detection past /boot into the root disk. I write about the feature and my thought process behind developing it here: puri.sm/posts/new-pureboot-fea
