@thibaultamartin @KekunPlazas *postmarketOS, only the OS bit is capitalized 😉
We do indeed support Phosh as well, although personally I do indeed prefer Plasma Mobile. But let's not go into my opinions of that whole affair here, it isn't relevant. The point is that the Librem 5 effort shouldn't be insulted, as it's still advancing Linux on Mobile, no matter what you think of it.
@KekunPlazas @purism @matrix Oh, but I can do that too!
Yesterday I received my #PinePhone from @PINE64! Today I had fun with it and postmarketOS, here are some photos:
- the default applications
- the Fractal @matrix client
It's a glorious time for Linux on mobile!
@mntmn Are you planning to take any more thermal images of the board with this new heatsink installed? Also, is this heatsink designed to transfer heat to the back of the chasis, and if so how is that being accomplished (e.g., is it just in direct contact with the chasis once installed, or is there a screw hole there for a direct connection between chasis and heatsink)?
@mntmn What is the ETA on those aluminum milled cases? I'm super excited about seeing how they turned out.
It was an exciting week for the #Pursim team, shipping Librem 5s from the Birch batch to backers https://puri.sm/posts/librem-5-birch-shipping-announcement/ and reading your early impressions.
Your support and energy keeps us going!
Thank you for believing in the Librem 5 and our mission https://puri.sm/about/ #privacy #security #Librem5 #Linux
@MirceaKitsune @jemek @purism There is no older model. The librem 5 is their first phone. The 5 in the name indicates the size of the screen on the device. When they release new versions of products they bump a version number instead (e.g., "Librem 15 v4" = "Librem 15 version 4"). So the absence of a version number means that this is the first version of the product.
I love this post:
"When we first approached hardware manufacturers almost two years ago with this project most of them instantly said “No, sorry, impossible, we can not help you.”. Others warned us, that it could never work, that it was too complicated, “the industry does not do that” and so forth.
And yet here we are, later than we wanted, but we are actually shipping first hardware! It is possible but it comes at a price." #Librem5
We are delighted to share that early yesterday we shipped the first #Librem5 Birch devices to backers https://puri.sm/posts/librem-5-birch-shipping-announcement/
@mntmn Awesome! This project looks amazing. Thank you for your hard work.
@mntmn Will the completed keyboard layout include a "fn" key to enable alternate functionality on the F keys (e.g., volume up, volume down, mute, screen brightness up/ screen brightness down, etc.)?
@mntmn I'm guessing the flying gray ribbon cable is to connect the speakers, but what is the flying red cable for? Also, will there be any further modifications to the motherboard so that those connectors can be closer to where they are needed?
