Mobile phones were not designed for privacy and security. Not only do they do a poor job of protecting your communications, they also expose you to new kinds of surveillance risks—especially location tracking. https://ssd.eff.org/en/module/problem-mobile-phones
The Making of "Your Turn to Roll"
After adding proximity sensor-support to #iio-sensor-proxy (https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/hadess/iio-sensor-proxy/merge_requests/298) and adding runtime-pm support for the chip used in the #librem5 (and it's devkit) (https://lore.kernel.org/linux-iio/cover.1580721204.git.agx@sigxcpu.org/) we can now wire it up to #phosh to fade the screen and prevent keyboard input:

Dr. Who in Richard Nixon's office 😀 This is one of my favorite scenes.
This doesn't bode well for any legislation that would curb #privacy abuses by marketing firms. If Feds bypass 4th amendment using adtech, regulating that industry could trigger "going dark" claims like w/ e2e encryption.

I would love to use one of these with the #Librem5 by @purism. Not long to go now until the #Evergreen batch.

Kind of a summary of Dr. Who and Clara, set to music.
BREAKING: We’ve confirmed that the Ring doorbell app on Android covertly shares personally identifiable information on its users with third-party companies, including Facebook.

Something that has surprised me over the few weeks I've had this #Librem5 phone is the rapid progress. Each week brings at least one big improvement. Case in point, yesterday's kernel update (should hit main repos in a few days) made a noticeable change in the phone's heat and touchscreen performance.
The Open Book Project - An Open Source E-Reader That's Free Of Corporate Restrictions
The Open Book Project has been designed and engineered from the ground up to be everything devices like the Amazon Kindle or Rakuten Kobo are not. There are no secrets inside the Open Book, no hidden chips designed to track and share your reading habits and preferences with a faceless corporation. With enough know-how, you could theoretically build and program your own Open Book from scratch, but as a result of winning the Take Flight With Feather contest, Digi-Key will be producing a small manufacturing run of the ereader, with pricing and availability still to be revealed. https://squeet.me/objects/962c3e109ce55c96dc0a990ae80a818d3f8909af
