@mhoye @jfred JMP.chat is an SMS service (bridge to xmpp) that can be scripted using sendxmpp and I use it for notifications from home camera. There might be something similar for matrix, too

@dthompson I hope your optimism ends up being warranted

I'm having a tough time navigating the contrast between the the number of new Covid cases in Ontario, population 14.7M, in the last day - 700 - with the number of new covid cases in Vietnam, population 95M, over the last MONTH, that being... 30.

@dthompson at first I thought @cwebber@octodon.social but then reconsidered at they seem more effective and grounded...

Hello! Looking for hardware for measuring indoor air quality πŸ’¨ 🏠 πŸ’¨ One of our housemates has allergies we're trying to track down... Hardware must detect:
- particulate matter (e.g. PM 2.5 & 10)
- volatile organic compounds (specifically wood volatiles like turpentine)

Should be as open as possible and 'affordable'. Temp. & humidity nice bonus, but not necessary. Does not need to be turn-key/can be for nerds πŸ€“

@dthompson I can definitely appreciate that. I avoid single use tools as much as possible too. If it helps, we also use ours for potatoes (and a couple of times for vegetable based pasta substitutes, but this is admittedly rare).

If hand peeling isn't too much of a chore, then less stuff is more better :)

@kyle if they were able to keep SourceForge limping along, there may be hope yet. Curious how deep those pockets are...

@purism nice write up! Are the sources to the blender models available anywhere?

@ckeen perhaps Davx5 for the sync to Android, then Etar for interacting.

Netgear is locking some features of their switches unless the product is "registered" kb.netgear.com/000062364/GC108
In plain terms, they're pushing you to let them collect data on your network device. What data exactly? Well... "The information we collect varies depending on which NETGEAR product or service you use." netgear.com/about/privacy-poli

Huh. Didn't realize how terrible the Epson refillable tank printers were. Less than 2 years in with little printing, and the dreaded Ink Pad issues have bitten friends of mine (search for that before buying one).

Amazing how they could make something that should be a great idea into a terrible one.

Thanks, Epson.

@mattl a little older, but it reminds me of the Casio JD-300

Didn't realize how involved the oil industry was in the plastic "recycling" industry.

I haven't yet read the article, but this quote is too good to let go:

> Running a successful open source project is just Good Will Hunting in reverse, where you start out as a respected genius and end up being a janitor who gets into fights.

@Salyer because we never realized how effective they can be, despite other countries in the world having gotten the message long ago?

Kind of like how medical doctors resisted using them for years originally, but now surgery without them would seem insane.

Illegal music

@jbauer prosody. Or ejabberd. Either should be fine and can have the recent XEPs all enabled so it can pass the compliance suite.
