As I hoped, Steve discusses the Lastpass breach on today's episode. He also makes a recommendations for current users. twit.tv/sn. The episode should be available later today or watch us live at twit.tv/live.

Another Black man falsely accused of a crime and arrested because of a bad facial recognition search. Fourth or so we know about; probably many more we don't. Arrested while driving to a family Thanksgiving and kept in jail for 7 days, even though he'd never been in the same state as the crime scene

CVE Binary Tool 3.2 is released!

This is my work open source project that lets you scan for known vulnerabilities in your binaries, package lists and SBOMs. It's meant to make it easier (and cheaper!) to make secure open source software.

3.2 includes new features from our Google Summer of Code 2022 contributors & more.

Release notes: github.com/intel/cve-bin-tool/

And get the code on pypi:

Boosts appreciated!

@katherined gotta love Joomla! Been building sites on the CMS for about 15 years or so and volunteering with them for about 10. So many amazing volunteers.

@mglaman @duane @katherined @jessicasachs @Shini92 indeed! The work he and others have done have absolutely transformed major Drupal upgrades — super simple now!

@katherined my favorite undermaintained project is #XCSoar xcsoar.org
Its a GPL2 FOSS tactical glide computer that many #paraglider and #soaring pilots rely on for making 500+km flights just with wind and sun. The appstore download has 100'000 users and very few contributers: github.com/XCSoar/XCSoar/graph

@katherined I love this!

I'd like to tag @jessicasachs, @Shini92, and the rest of the new faker.js team on #GratitudeTuesday and thank them for their work over the last year after the previous maintainer rage-quit the project. It's an important tool for testing, and testing is important for security and reliability. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

I think we should start (or any day) to acknowledge people quietly doing the work that keeps us all running, keeps us secure, keeps our businesses running. What is your favorite under-acknowledged project that many rely on and doesn't get enough attention? Or your favorite contributor who always seems to be plugging along making sure those projects are healthy?

I had a great time merging work and fun for this week's @reality2cast. My very knowledgeable teammate @eze_lanza lent his extensive expertise and filled in so much we would have missed otherwise. I think we did this conversation about justice. 🤩 Thanks, Eze!

I direct this to my many TWiT/TWiG friends: Now's the time of hear to buy yourself -- or buy a friend -- membership in Club Twit. @leo and the team work hard to bring us joy every week. Advertising ain't what it used to be. Just as Mastodon frees us from the dominance of the ad-supported, attention-based market of old social media, so do we have the chance to support more of @TWiT ourselves. OpenAI releases Point-E, an AI that generates 3D models | TechCrunch - techcrunch.com/2022/12/20/open

The next breakthrough to take the AI world by storm might be 3D model generators. This week, OpenAI open sourced Point-E, a machine learning system that creates a 3D object given a text prompt. According to a paper published alongside the code base, Point-E can produce 3D models in one to two minutes on a single Nvidia V100 GPU.
